    Lots of material shops sell that wipe clean fabric. If you have kids its really the only sort of tablecloth I'd recommend. or you will be washing so much. If you get a good quality one [ best one I ever got was from John Lewis - cos its plastic coated you buy by the metre and don't have to hem] they last for years. Even though my kids are now grown up I still have one on my kitchen table
    We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

    I wanted a tablecloth recently but couldn't afford to buy one, so I made myself two from a bed sheet which I didn't need. I just cut it in half and hemmed the raw edges.

    I am lucky enough to have a fabric mill shop just down the road where they sall tablecloths, the wipe clean fabric etc. We have a lounge diner and I was sick of the table looking like it did so I bought piece of an end of roll heavy velvety curtain material and ran up a classy looking cover for when we aren't eating. The other place to look is the bigger Tesco stores, I have a couple of their table cloths.

    The timing of this post is brilliant! I have two dds and wanted to protect my table indoors from their accidents whilst eating. Well last week I bought 2 (yes 2 !) plastic garden tablecloths from Tchibo because I could not decide on the colour/pattern (thinking that I will take one back this Saturday) and because they were sooo cheap .... only £6 each! ....... have a look.... Tchibo tableclothes

    Your post has convinced me not to take the other one back as they seem sooooo difficult to find.

    BTW they are thick enough to stop all water and are very pretty so could be used inside or out. They only come in one size, three colous/patterns (I have the blue one and also the green one which isn't on the web) and best of all Tchibo does home delivery for £3.95

    Thanks again and I hope you find what you need

    Depending on the size and/or shape how about a shower curtain, my table is rectangle (sp?). (mines a pengin one you know the tacky shower curtains you think look good lol but kids love it you can get plain ones from the poundshop....might do for just now?
    I use this with the kids other than that I have fancy ones which will only be brought out once in a while as most of them are older than me lol, 2 of which my grand dads nana made :eek:

    Anyway just a thought.
    Grocery Challenge. £400. - £35.22 + £19.80 + £109.01 = £164.03
    Other spends (Clothes Luxuries etc)£11.97 + £1.19 + £7.36 + £69.00 + £38.50 + £5.50 + £23.00 +£2.00 = £158.52:shocked::sad:

    Cath Kidston do them but they are not cheap I'm afraid. I've got one of the wipe clean floral cloths.

    As someone has said Dunelm is very good for all basic table and kitchen linen.
  • Have you tried charity shops. I have quite often seen table cloths in them and on Saturday was undecided about buying a beautiful cross stitched one - I was going to turn it into a bag but decided that I wouldn't be spending my 50p just yet.

    I've got a couple of tablecloths from ikea and BHS that weren't particularly expensive. I've also used throws, sheets and blankets as necessary.

    Just been to Ikea and they do really large tableclothes,cheap,pretty and napkins as well. I love the look of a crisp clean TC and it covers my rather unlovely but ,oh so useful, dining table.

    We have a local mill shop, they do them quite cheap in the 'ofcuts section'. Or matalan did have some, also one of the local pound shops near me had some with the picnic plates.
