So both the OP and their partner had nachos, ribs and chicken and only the OP has food poisoning? Does that sound like Chiquitos is the source of the problem?

I would assume that not all the food in Chiquitos is infected. I think its perfectly reasonable to assume that say only one or two pieces of chicken were infected as opposed to the whole batch.

Well the OP had fajitas and her bf had the mixed grill.

Both dishes included chicken, but the seasoning was different. Mine had a crust and something else (the exact detail escapes me!)

I think the OP and others are being a bit unfair on Chiquito here. As already been mentioned the food poisoning could have been caused by something the OP ate up to 3 days ago. Indeed it's more likely not to have been caused by the food from Chiquito. Why assume it's Chiquito when there is no evidence to back it up?

Could actually be as much as 70 days ago :) Just the "normal" onset time is within 1-3 days but realistically it could be something you had 1 hour ago or 2 months ago!

OP, it could very well be that you have/had a stomach bug that was irritated by your choice of food. Spicy foods tend to do that :) Even to crohns/IBS sufferers - they are usually advised to stay away from spicy foods as it can cause the sufferer symptoms not uncommon to food poisoning (severe painful stomach cramps, explosive diarrhoea, joint/muscle pain, sweating and even vomiting).

The only way to tell really is blood tests. Unless you were affected with diarrhoea/vomiting for more than 2 days, it is unlikely your doctor would order blood tests.

  • Could be a case of simple gastric flu?

Iirc, genuine food poisoning is a notifiable disease. If your GP genuinely thought this the case, (s)he should have requested a stool sample to send off to the lab.

Although for the OP 'food poisoning' seems like an easy/convenient reason, it's actually quite a serious allegation for the restaurant:

I agree, I was hasty in putting it on, tbh I think I wrote that at about 2am and I was trying to find ways of distracting myself wanting to hurl. I was also not in the best of moods as you can imagine! In my defence as well, the review wasn't published straightaway and I was actually asked by Trip Advisor at about 1pm on the Saturday if I was happy for the review to be published in light of what I had said. By that time I'd been to the doctors and they advised me that it may be food poisoning. If I didn't feel that the cause was the meal I would have asked for it to be removed (by the way, I posted it from a tablet whilst sat in the bathroom. Probably a minor detail, but it's just for the benefit of those who seem to be picking my story a part).

Thank you to those who have given constructive advice on the problem. Like I've previously stated, I've never had food poisoning before, I didn't actually know that food poisoning can present itself days later, as opposed to hours. I made the assumption of food poisoning before visiting the doctors based on the symptoms on the BBC and NHS websites. Yes, in hindsight, maybe wrongly. I had pasta for lunch which I made myself, it didn't jump at me as the cause. The doctor didn't mention the time frame when I saw her and gave me advice based on her expertise, so I am going off pretty new information.

I'll be sure to complain to everyone I came into contact with that day so Chiquito doesn't feel like it's being picked on ;)

so you are condemming the restaurant on a 'maybe'

so you made your lunch,do you not think it could have happened then?? house kitchens tend to have more bacteria around than pro kitchens

so dont you think you should remove your bad feedback on TA as you do not know that it was the restaurant that caused your upset stomach

IF and it is a very big IF,the chicken did cause the problem, for it to manifest in such a short space of time it must have been a very virulent strain and 'cross' contamination would have happened, her chicken and his chicken/beef/prawns would have been handled by the same person at the same time

I didn't realise you work at Chiquito's Metro center?

If you don't you have absolutely no idea how that food was prepared or who it was prepared by.

Perhaps, but you have stated that you assume:-

Why can't others do the same?

Actually in the kitchen at the resturant I work in 1 guy does the meat. The other the chips, salad ect then the head chef that day plates it all so it is not beyone the realms of possiblity that all the meat was handled by the same person.
