    Hello fellow NOvember challengers :)

I have been giving a lot of though to how i am going to acheive this, and have come up with 3 money saving things that i can do:

1-Shop online. I know there are advantages to shopping in store (namely the YS- yellow sticker- deals) but i feel like i will be able to stick to my budget better if i dont enter a SM (supermarket) at all.

2- Use my car as little as possible. I am very guilty of driving to Tesco (2 min walk) or to take my youngest son to school (10mins walk), and petrol is, as we all know, stupidly expensive! This will also help with number 1, as i am 20mins to the SM that i regularly use.

3-Save water. Living in the area of the UK which has the most expensive water rates, i need to keep an eye on this, and find ways of using less water. Any ideas for this would be REALLY appreciated. I am already on a meter.

So, those are the 3 main things i'll be concentrating on during this NOvember challenge.

Are there any specific things that others are concentrating on?

We had a massive drought in South Africa where I lived as a kid - we put a brick in each cistern to take up space - therefore less water - we used the bath water to fill the toilet and wash smalls and we all used the same water (3 girls) we would put buckets out to collect rainwater and use to wash clothes - twin tub days :)

My inlaws run the hot tap into a bowl till it gets hot and then use that water for pot plants... and there is always if is yellow let it mellow...i hate that one
Love reading the oldstyle board...always something to learn!

Thanks kettlenic (and welcome bettycrumble :) )

i might do the 'if its yellow let it mellow' during the day when the kids are at school, but couldnt do it when they are home, LOL!
Think i'll leave the washing up till once a day as that'll save 2 sinks full :)

Oh go on ... im in ... i need to do something my spending is out of control at the moment ...

I've been reading with keen interest and looking over my months spending and if i stick to a budget i for once should be left with at least £50 in my bank which will be the first time in ...... well lets say a while ...

my food budget is £250 which considering its been near enough £400 for the last couple of months due to tiredness/laziness and those trips to asda as OH has to have treats well if he wants treats he has his own money so oh well when he runs out :P ...

meal planning is gonna be key for me as my kids (9&3) have shared time between me and the ex and sometimes things do change last minute but my plan will stick ..

I already have sweets for trick or treaters ... drinks i dont tend to drink that much as the price annoys me if i decide to have a drink it will come out the food budget which will deter me anyway ...

I have budgeted for DD, SO, days out (going to see my aunt but all i pay is the petrol as she does sandwichs and tea :D) and xmas budget (had to wait for my bonus to kick in and ex is splitting the cost) ..

beauty products i have the usual stock but once again if i need out its out the food budget ...

NSD's 25 i will strive for but as its my first month restricting myself i will be happy with 20 :) ...

smoking i quit for ages and due to stress (a poop loads but i wont go in to it) i started again and to be honest i usually nick OH's .. so im gonna cut down to 2-3 a day then by the end of the month hopefully sod all ..

make the most of freebies .. ive had 4 freebies from o2 in the last 5 days so if its free its allowed if its not then its NO! oh and comps cause lets face it .. you never know (but always free comps)

petrol my car is really cheap to run it only take £40 to fill the tank and i can make that last 2 to 2 and half weeks and that includes the school run, work, trips to the MIL's and the supermarket ...

And the most important .. LEAVE STARBUCKS ALONE!!! :D ..

Wish me luck and good luck to everyone else x
    :)Still searching .....:)

I think it's the grocery as she took the number for my grocery spend out of my post.

Thanks for this, Kat I'm up for £40 as I'm already completely stocked up even for meat and stuff - freezer is full!
Nothing to report as yet...give me a minute...!

    Oh stuff it.
Count me in as well. I've got loads of food in the freezer - veg, fish and some home made stews and soups.
My cupboards have rice, pasta, tinned beans, tuna etc so I should have enough to keep going for at least two weeks before I need to buy anything else.
I need to get porridge oats, bread (some to freeze), milk and eggs tomorrow (but that is still October), so mostly I am covered.

I dusted off 2 old cook books - 'I Hate to Cook' and 'The Student Cookbook' to give me some ideas. I'm not a student, and I don't hate cooking, but they have cheap, simple recipes with nutritious meal plans using basics, so they will be my new reference guides.

We have already booked tickets for Skyfall as our anniversary treat, so that is covered, so everything else is going to be saved.

I've got my S/O and D/D payments covered, and a budget for food /household 'just in case's' of £100 for the 3 of us plus pets.
I plan on having some of that left over, and to be on the safe side I'm taking the money out, handing my card over to my friend to keep safe so I have to beg and justify any extra money. I'll divide it into 4 weeks as a limit for the budget and never take out more than that.
At least that's the plan. :o

  • I'm too scared to sign up but will be following with interest for some ideas as need to cut my debt and not increase it by treating myself and putting it on the credit card!

Food budget normally £200 for family of 4 plus dog but Now will be £180 for NOvember.

I already agreed to buy my mum's christmas present with my sister so £20 is accounted for for that.

I have to say that I will be buying little things for my children for christmas. (bargains, Amazon, super saver delivery) time is ticking on now and I have to so I'm not counting that but everything else... I'm in!

Oh, my work uniform might arrive in NOvember so might have to pay that off.

    Bring it on!

Wooohoooooooooo! WELCOME!.. You have been numbered and you are marked.. bring it on indeed!!!
