    Debt-free and Proud!
    Morning all.

Well, didn't quite make the challenge targets. 19 NSDs (as long as I don't spend today) over £300 on monthly groceries (but my freezer is still rather full) but I the challenge has helped me keep a better eye on my spending and I intend to carry this on despite not joining the DDD challenge.

    Well done everyone :T

Hmm, not quite the NSD I was after - curse you Living Social Deals!!! I decided, since it's a one day only offer, to spend £5 on the Starbucks deal, not just because it's a chance to get half price coffee (half of an over inflated price makes it better value, still not necessarily value for money), but also because during my working days in London, I often have to visit lots of places and write reports as I go and more often than not, I need to be indoors (somewhere like a coffee shop) to do this (ever tried typing a report on an ipad on a street corner?). So, it's kind of a business expense. A spend none the less though, so have I fallen at the final hurdle?

With Living Social, if 3 people use my link I get the deal free. My friend's already bought one so I only need two more people to follow my link and then I'l get it free and make my NSD target :A If any of you were thinking of going for it (well, kat did tell us all to go and buy a Starbucks today :p), I'd be grateful if you'd click on the link below....

  • Well done everyone on all the NSDs!

I managed to exceed my target with 26NSDs and I was under target on my shopping spends woohoo! Also managed to bag some overtime for Christmas, I know it's not the best time to do it but money is money

So I'm all set for DDD - money box, spend diary and budgets at the ready!

26? Whoop whoop Candy :T:T Well done!

Another one of my friends has gone for the Living Social deal so I only need one more person and I'll get it free. I had actually budgeted £10 in December for my Starbucks card (for the above reasons) so, even if I don't make NOvember's NSD target, I still win overall. Ideally this offer would have been on tomorrow and I'd have been ecstatic. I gotta say I'll be gutted if this is what makes me not reach NOvember's target.

Still 9 and a half hours left of NOvember so I'll ask everyone I come into contact with if they want to follow my link ... watch this space!
  • I have managed 17 NSD. Shopping budget was under 300 quid, which considering the kids ravenous appetites at min is best I've ever achieved. I know i didn't hit my target but i still have money in the bank most of my xmas shopping done and am seriously looking at my spends now. Thanks guys its been a blast.x

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".
  • Well my NOvember has a been a bit of a mare.

    Negatives
I caved and bought a Kindle Fire (£100)
I spent two nights in a hotel (40)
I went out LOADS. cocktails. dinner.

    Positives.
I went to Sainsburys 3 times (I normally go twice a week at least)
I ate out of the storecupboard for 10 days. Couldn't stand the suss lunches any more
    I had wages left
    I have no CC bill.
I made my £365 target and that is sitting in my Bank Account

I won't be the December Challenge, but will be back in January!

    Good Luck every one xxx
    Nevertheless she persisted.

Well Buffy, I'm gonna follow your format:-

    NOvember POSITIVES ++++++++++

    I had 18 or 17 NSDs
Saved £11 in my secret sock
Started a secret sock! (Saving for new home stuff)
    Made £24 on eBay
    Made £25 from motormate
    Made £20 from mystery shopping
Made £11 selling books on Amazon
    Batch cooked a lot
    Kept within my food budget
Cut food budget down to £15 on week 3
Saved £400 towards the house deposit
Paid off HSBC credit card of £500 (thanks for talking me into that one Kat)
Paid car tax in full (usually only do 6 months at a time)
Joined Lovefilm and will be getting £15.50 cash back - need to cancel it tomorrow
Got exam marking contract for Jan/Feb
Finally got references to Sheffield Hallam uni for Msc I want to do
    (What are you studying Jamie?)
Saved £50 in save to buy a/c with my bank

    NOvember NEGATIVES - - - - - - - - - -

Have had a mini blip since being paid on Monday
Spent £150 on clothes/shoes but this is less than before
Haven't bought many Chrissy pressies yet
Didn't get car MOTed but have until late Dec to do this
Didn't get car insured but have until dec 24th to do this
    {Oh why did I purchase a car just before Christmas ?!!?}

On reflection I've become much less wasteful where food is concerned plus it's made me realise how fortunate I am, but I can still do better and am spurred on to do so. It was interesting today in assembly this morning as we had a woman in speaking about the work of CAFOD. She said that we waste tonnes of food a year, enough to fill over 200, 000 double decker buses. Shocking! Makes me feel better that I'm opefully becoming less wasteful where food is concerned.

I like the fact too that this challenge is tying in with my aim to be a better person and show and experience more gratitude for the things that I have got, rather than focusing on what a haven't.

Thanks everyone for all your posts and thanks so much to Kat for her words of wisdom and straight talking. I've enjoyed reading each and every one and see you on the DDD thread x
