B&Q Kitchen, where do i begin!

I am still not clear having read all of this if this is a planning or a fitting issue or both?
The heights and gaps for wall cupboards above and around gas hobs is something that all designers should be aware of but it is surprising how many are not. All fitters and surveyors really do need to be aware of it. Am very suprised that no one has picked up on this at any stage until now.
You will, by the sound of it, have to make a compromise of some sort to have a kitchen that meets regulations, unless the wall units can be raised to sort the problem out. The only reason I can think that wall units would be fitted only 35cm above the worktop is a low ceilng. In which case there is no way you can possibly have the kitchen the way you want it, and comply with regulations.0 -
Quite right too. What does the plan say in respect of heights etc.
Cheers
The height is governed by the oven housing on the adjoining wall so they're all at the same height.
I'll wait and see what the new surveyor says in the week, ive been searching for a solution re different size doors/units but they dont work without changing the hob from it's central position in the worktop which will look odd to say the least.
TBH i'm ready to tell em to take the lot out and start again with a different company, the trouble is we spent weeks making sure it was exactly as we wanted and now it isnt going to be.
Totally fed up with it, all the wirings been done to suit this design and everything.0 -

Do the bottoms of the base cabs line up with the bottom of the oven housing?TBH i'm ready to tell em to take the lot out and start again with a different company, the trouble is we spent weeks making sure it was exactly as we wanted and now it isnt going to be.

No it's the designer/planner who helped us to design it in store then the surveyor came out and measured everything to make sure it would all fit and didnt need altering, then the fitters arrived and they didnt notice any problem until the Gas man came to connect it up.
The ceiling is just over 2.4m which is standard, theres a gap of approx 35cm to the u/s of the 10cm coving above the units. It all lines up perfectly with the other units and oven housing.0 -
Yes I know that and said so a few posts ago. Please humour me and tell me what the plan says. If the plan says 450 the fitters have cocked it up and should have flagged it or just gone ahead and fixed it when it became obvious that it wasn't going to be. If the plan says 350 the designer has cocked it up and the "surveyor" should have picked it up and flagged it. If it doesn't give a precise measurement then it can be calculated by knowing the height of the tall unit less the height of the wall cabs compared with the heights of the base cabs plus worktop.

Yes its frustrating and if you want to close this thread then so be it. But whilst its still alive and you are still posting I'll try and help as will others.
Cheers
The plan doesnt give the measurement it just all lines up with the oven housing and goes around the adjoining wall, it looks fab, but wont work.0 -

10cm Pelmet! That is one mahoosive pelmet! Are you sure they have fitted it the right way up and it should not be rotated by 90 degrees? Therein might lay your problem.0 -

But as this isn't fothcoming I'm going to have a stab in the dark.
I reckon its the oven housing that is wrong and there is actually nothing whatsoever wrong with the rest of it. They've fitted a standard appliance housing and it should have been a tall one. But I can't verify the dimensions atm. Now whether thats a design issue or a picking list issue or a cockup in delivery or whatever it is the fitters who should still have picked up on it and the surveyor shouldn't have been so dismissive.
I bet if you get a tall appliance housing and raise all the wallcabs accordingly you will now have a non-problem.

OP pics would really help of the oven housing, tall units etc etc if you can't post em on here then post them to one of the free hosting sites & either post the links on here or pm them to one of us & we will post them up for youI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0
