Sorry that things are rough at the moment. You will have the strength to get through this.

Are you paying in anything at all to your mortgage? I wonder if tiny regular payments would show some willing if it got to court? Perhaps someone else can advise. Is there any reason (apart from the neighbours) why you can't put the house on the market now?

  • Hello again,

QBSBuck - yes, they're really not nice. But it's mainly the freeholder. She also owns the downstairs flat. She's from abroad and she and everyone she associates with seem to be criminals. But I can't prove it yet. So the Police come and tackle one issue at a time, but no-one wants to take ownership of the problem and understand it all. They're all so busy, especially with Fireworks night.

Firesidemaid - thank you for joining in. Do you have experience of Shelter? I desperately hope they can help me. I can see the charges building up which makes me angry that NRAM won't give me a straight and timely answer. And the places you mention sound lovely! It's just daunting right now. But there's nothing to keep me in London so anywhere green would be fantastic!

Whitewing - Thank you for still being here! I'm paying £50.00 per month to my mortgage from an income of £71.00 per week. But I may have to reduce this a little. I think I should be ok as long as I don't skip a payment altogether. Then it looks like I've given up and I wouldn't blame them for approaching the court. I'm hoping to start viewings next Saturday. Am just playing the agents off against each other right now to get the best fee! Standard sole agency is 2%, but some do a sliding scale and some a flat fee of 1.75%.

Oh and the Royal Mail have invited me for an open day! But they pay £6.95 per hour as opposed to the telesales of £10,000 p.a. So I need to find out how much that is per hour. But it's a start!
  • Don't do this. Your baby needs you. Money is not important. You will get past this.

Please phone The Samaritans. Please. Talk to someone tonight. Keep posting if it helps.

Cool_Chick, you may want to edit the title of your first post if you can:

Maybe to 'In a panic - flat about to be repossessed'.

Then maybe add at the top of the first post in really big bold writing:
Update: Feeling much better now. Valuations done on the flat and speaking to Shelter.

I hate it when people delete their first posts because I know others will be in similar situations.

Hope you have a good day today.

Royal Mail would be a good organisation to have on your CV. Check out working tax credits if you would have enough hours.

  • Hi there

Trustedhousesitters asked to respond on this thread. MSE doesn't endorse anything a company says on the forum

    Hi @Cool_Chick,

James from Trusted Housesitters here. @Enzed22 thank you for the mention.

First off, I think there's some fantastic advice in this thread from the other members of MSE. I'm just replying because Trusted Housesitters was mentioned and I felt a moral obligation to get involved.

@Enzed22 is right, we do have some people on the site who almost live off the grid, so to speak; they avoid paying rent/a mortgage by house sitting full-time for other people. I should point out two things though:

    - This isn't the norm on the site and the people who are doing it have spent a long time building up a profile and references.

    - The second thing is, lining up back-to-back housesits is tricky. I'm housesitting in France currently, but every now and then there will be a gap and during that time I'll have to go to a hotel, hostel, self-catering etc. If you don't have an income coming in, this can quickly get expensive - well even if you do it's expensive. I wouldn't want to try it without the backup on another income, or another form of cheap/free accommodation of which there are plenty: couchsurfing, wwoofing etc.

Only pointing this out because I don't want you to pin all of your hopes on the site. If you're interested in becoming a sitter we'd love to have you on board and I think combining it with a lot of the other advice that's been given could give you a bit of space to think and get things back on track.
Could you do with a Money Makeover?

CoolChick, I am sorry that I didn't see your message in my inbox until today! I have replied to you.

I know from experience that doing a bit of house-cleaning is a quick way to get some money in your pocket. It may take a week or two to find someone, but they're out there. And, you can do anything from a small amount of cash-in-hand to actually running a full-blown cleaning business. Many people work their way up from "cleaning lady" to "business owner." But, there's always a demand for people to help out around the house.
