  • have you tried Christians against poverty ? capuk.org.If there is a centre near you ,they will work flat out with you to reach a solution.. Believe me, my husband who is a cap centre manager here in Swindon has seen many people sorted out and saved from eviction and repossession recently..They help people of all faiths and none, and do a lot of hand holding with their local trained befrenders. Wow, that's fantastic news about the valuations, well done. Congratulations. So if you sell up then you'll be rich! Dripping in cash. Yee ha. Brill.

You can fill the bath with fifty quid notes and splash about in them. Blimey.

You'll be able to buy a whole other place for cash with no need for any mortgage and have some money spare as well. And live happily ever after! Well, hopefully.

I'm very happy for you. That's a turn up, isn't it. From down in the dumps - to flying high in the sky. Just like that. Boing!

We're in the money, it's very funny, tra la la la la, foh dee oh day! I think I'm going to crack open a tin of beer and celebrate your success.

Well, alright, steady on now, you're not quite there yet. If you're going to sell then sometimes if you're lucky it's smooth and happens easily and quickly but other times, as I expect you know, it can turn into a right old ding dong with lots of annoying twists and turns and false starts and let downs.

Be ready for all sorts of nonsense and, for instance, chancers gazundering you and on the final day when it's supposed to be all wrapped up they suddenly demand another £50k off and stunts like that.

Then sometimes it just goes on and on. Buying my place took nearly a year and it was on, off, on, off then finally back on again. Gawd, what a palaver. Very tedious.

But, also, come on now, you've just won the lottery. Good as. The big fat finger is pointing at you. It's you!

I hope master fur ball is suitably impressed with your Ladyship's mega good fortune.

    >wanders off mumbling, golly, Cool's just scored, big time...fantastico...<

Wow's it is quite a party you have going on in the thread. I think you're right to be cautiously excited. Well done on the job seeking too, sounds like you are getting some good help with that. Nothing is forever, so if the telesales job just gives you some current experience that's all good. Don't forget it can take time to settle into new routines. A new job usually takes me around 6 weeks to settle and not be shattered.

Hope the cat is getting a present with your first wage packet, when it happens.

Well done on a very productive week.

    Hello,

I'm in a really bad situation financially and I'm a few weeks away from killing myself.

I have not been able to find work for 4 years now. I'm an educated, specialised office worker. I'd rather not say more than that. I've been paying my mortgage through a tax refund, Mortgage Assistance from the DWP then a large personal injury insurance payout I received.

But I now have 3 months of arrears. Approx £3k. I've been with NRAM since the start (over 7 years), and they really are terrible. In this time, I've already won 2 Financial Ombudsman Service complaints against them.

They have sent me 1 letter and are now threatening to go straight to legal proceedings. All I receive is £71.00 Jobseekers Allowance per week, but they want more than this. Don't give them what you can't afford

I have no friends and no family. All I have is my cat. Cats are aloof, get a dog.

The CAB won't respond to my emails. Shelter never answer. CCCS and National Debtline only talk about budgeting and payment plans. £71.00 per week isn't very much to faff about.

My head says that I should get the house valued, sell it quickly (even at auction), then maybe buy a caravan and live happily with my cat. This isn't the worst idea I've ever heard!

My heart says f*%k it, I can't fight anymore. Grab a bottle of whiskey then jump in the car at the dead of night and find a nice brick wall to hit. With my cat. I can't bear to leave him behind. How selfish.

Has anyone else been in my position and have any constructive advice please? Yes, things ALWAYS get better with time. Ride it out. Fight for what you want.

No offence, but I'm really not interested in anyone saying "there, there, you'll feel better tomorrow/life is precious/you are special/speak to a helpline/go on anti-depressants" etc.

    Thank you.

    See above for my thoughts.

And I just think it is amazing how things have changed so much for me for the better in less than a week. I really hope that anyone else in a similar position to me finds this forum and sees how things can change so quickly. Even when things feel really hopeless, the situation can still get better.

Without even seeing this post, and commenting on your very first, it proves I was right.

It gets better because its difficult for it to get worse. Any improvement feels like a major one.

A problem shared is a problem halved, it helps just to outwardly express any inner issues and to receive others' thoughts and advice and support and encouragement.

In the darkest bleakest hour at the depths of despair there is always help and comfort if it is sought.

    Hey Cool_Chick

I've just read the whole thread and my heart was breaking for you and your wee cat :( I'm so glad that things are looking up.

I've had some rough times the last few years, and my 2 cats have been a lifesaver. There's nothing that cheeers me up more after a bad day then coming home to my wee babies :D And it's true what you're saying about black cats not being wanted as much - one of my babies was nearly drowned as a 4 week old kitten by the breeder. He's a traditional Siamese, and was the runt of the litter and had some health issues, but because he was completely black the breeder wouldn't spend the vet's fees on him because he reckoned no one would pay money for a black siamese.

I heard about this from a friend of the neighbour, and turned up at the guys house, told him I wanted the black one and took him home the same day. Ended up hand feeding him every few hours for the first few weeks, and he's a regular at the vet, but he's the happiest wee soul and he's been worth every penny.

Just remember that whether you stay in your house or sell up and move to a caravan, you and cat will be fine!!

  • Hi Dorcas62 - thank you for the tip about Christians Against Poverty. I won't contact them just yet as I've raised this with Shelter now, but I will take a good look at the website. You can never have too much information when the situation is as serious as this. And I didn't want to mention religion here as it can be quite controversial. But I was raised to belive in God and, even though I don't practice my religion often, I do have faith. And I've been saying a quick prayer before bed a few times recently. I would never ask for anything material, but I have been asking for strength to get through this. I think someone has kindly listened!

And Bangersnmash - have you been at the hops and barley already today?! But you're right, it would be so easy to get my hopes up when the reality is that it may take ages for any sale to go through. And I really don't want to be gazunderred! But I'm glad that you finally got your flat. Re: my cat. Is he happy? Well, we've been speaking about this recently. I thought I should prepare him. He was quite excited to have the opportunity for us to be evicted then end up living full-time in a cardboard box. But when I explained that his kibbles would get wet if it rained and turn all mushy, he changed his mind. And I treated myself to some Christmas nuts yesterday. And the hazlenuts pawed across the kitchen floor make great footballs for him so he is quite content today.

And Whitewing - thank you so much again for your support! I don't care how bad the job may turn out to be, it is better than sitting at home festering. And if I can show NRAM that I am actively trying my hardest, then it can only be in my favour. Being out of work at Christmas is especially hard, so at least it would be nice being out with other commuters and shoppers and just living. I might even have a little left over in my pocket to buy my baby a few extra tins of tuna!

Just read the whole thread and things sound much more hopeful. I live nearish to you and anything in that area of that size will be snapped up. And developers are always looking for places, they love un renovated places as you are not paying for things you are probably going to remove anyway. First thing I thought when you described it was -can I buy it! But you are out of my price range now. :)

Good luck, would love to see the right move link if you list it. I don't think in that area you need to go to auction. The market its very fast moving.
