I actually watched a whole one of his programmes last night and I have to say those meringues he made with cinnamon and raspberries had me almost dribbling!!!

  • Unfortunately though, even though his ingredients are all very "normal", it still makes me want to go out and shop as he has so many lovely pots & pans, kitchen implements and china to eat it all from :rotfl:

Since reading Jamie's 30 min meals I have bought some old (but lovely) crockery in charity shops. When I can, I now put the food out on nice platters and in bowls and we sit round the table and help ourselves. Same food, but gives mealtimes a sense of occasion rather than just dishing up on plates - the kids say "its like eating in restaurant" :)

How was the chicken pie hilstep ? I thought it looked wonderful, but I've been caught like thta before - I watched jaimie make a turkey and leek one (lots of pans to wash and took me ages) and it was horrible - would really like it if Nigel's was good !

using up-market ingredients like jarred peppers, not very MSE....

I beg to differ - roasted peppers 99p a jar in the 99p store - you get about 8 peppers - cheaper than fresh and don't go off

Yup. guaranteed more lick-the-tv moments than any other cookery programme :D.

Thank goodness he didn't add a dollop of clotted cream, I'd have been over the edge :rotfl:.

  • That chicken pie looked wonderful .... eagerly awaiting Hilstep's verdict.

I do so like that he's open to people using things like shop bought pastry etc (when so many others frown on it / say you have to make your own) - I know HM is probably best / cheaper but I just can't do pastry!

If it's good - do you think it would freeze?

 These are fantastic value, and liven up any salad, tapas, or you can put them on a baguette sliced in half, grate cheese over and then place in an oven for ten minutes or put under a grill.

Think I could do that too...most of what he does seems easy what I have to watch the cost regarding the energy used to cook meals where the oven is on for a long time.
