He has admitted that the kitchen in the programme is not his. Perhaps that is why the cat is missing?

  • I love this show and don't usually watch cooking shows. His food is a lot more realistic for me than the ones where you have to `pop to your local deli' :) I wish he'd come and cook for me, however, I'd have to clean my kitchen first !!

  • *sigh* I'm not big on cookery programmes (often find they waste too much stuff / not practical) but I could honestly watch NS cook all day.

It's so .... effortless IYKWIM and love the way he can bring things together - esp when it is stuff that most of us would have lying around (not able to shop at the deli/fishmonger weekly but generally I have bits & bobs lying around).

Big thumbs up from me .... would die for that kitchen!

I wouldn't worry about cleaning my kitchen. I'd just be worried he'd look at the 'best before' dates :o.

I think that it is MSE cooking - just with someone doing it who has quite a large income. He is cooking from scratch and not wasting the ingredients that he buys. He can inspire and instruct us all, I think, even if we can't all afford everything that he is doing the principals are there.

I agree with almost all of the above! I love his shows and while I can find loads of Ramsey, Martin and other celebrity chef cookbooks in the local charity shops - I have never seen a Nigel Slater one! and I really have my eyes peeled - I may even have to give in and (grudgingly) purchase a new one! People must hang on to them like grim death! Oh, and I havent found a Nigella Kitchen or Express one either!
He does NOT do faffing about! my kind of cooking!

And he'd listen to all your problems, and comfort you with a nice piece of cake :).

He says he can always sort out something special with just the things left in his fridge, well i'd like to see him come here and produce something to make your mouth water with a pot-noodle and tin of beans.

Phwoar - not for the faint hearted - Nigel talking about roast beef:

"On the plate - and it must be a warm one - the slices of meat fall in velvet layers, a little juice trickling from each as the meat waits for someone to pass the accompaniments. Those juices must not be squandered, but should run into something they will enrich with their savour - a pile of mashed swede the colour of winter candlelight, the frayed crust of a roast potato or a puree of parsnip.
On every plate is a patch where the juices from the beef and a gentle (and probably sloppy) accompaniment melt together to form a little island of bliss. It is a small but intense puddle of pleasure no one could bear to give away. My own Sunday roast involves the meat juices merging sexily with the sweet golden cream from a side order of pommes a la Dauphinoise, or maybe a more contemporary recipe using beetroot or parsnip instead of potato."
