Has anybody been watching Nigel's latest TV programme?
I had no idea he even HAD a new one till last night when I spotted it in the TV guide (been studying a lot lately and not watching much telly). So I'm just catching up in iPlayer and am really very impressed. So far in this episode he's made a smoked haddock chowder, a mustardy lamb steak and a prawn Thai curry, all from ingredients you'd (genuinely) have in your cupboard or fridge and absolutely no fussiness at all. It's definitely the best cookery show I've seen in ages.
Unfortunately though, even though his ingredients are all very "normal", it still makes me want to go out and shop as he has so many lovely pots & pans, kitchen implements and china to eat it all from :rotfl:

I watched the first episode of Jammy Oliver's new 15 minute meals & wasn't impressed. It was like watching Delia's programme on how to cheat but using up-market ingredients like jarred peppers, not very MSE...Haven't seen Slaters latest offerings tbh,as after watching the one on Channel Four immediately before Jammy's started, that one being done by Ramsay,I got tired of them.
But I'll give NS's a go...0 -
I'm watching it and enjoying it but not quite as much as his Simple Suppers. I miss him popping into his garden to snip a herb or two.0

I love NS's food. It seems so simple and as OP says he really is using stuff you might have in your fridge. On Friday he said 'I'm determined to use up all this week's shopping' and made something good with the (doubtless quite expensive and upmarket) shopping he had left in the fridge. I think that's something I should do - use up ALL the stuff in the fridge every week. But this series seems a bit mis-timed, I'm wanting sticky stews and soup and warming stuff and he's still making somewhat summery things. His books where he goes through the year describing what he has cooked are complete gastroporn. Lovely to read, wonderful photos, and recipes which are really easy (often) and good to make. And I love his passion for cake. How does he stay so thin ? I think he is a very quiet national treasure unlike the more shouty chefs. :T0

I don't do cooking nowadays, as my OH does it all, but NS's programmes are always good. He produces unfussy, but tasty food, which even I would have a go at if I didn't have a willing slave
in the house.

I just love NS, his book Toast is lovely, his Real Cooking and Tender cookbooks are ones i refer to time and time again. Have only just discovered his TV shows (i've been living abroad for a few years) and am busy catching up on iplayer, really good TVLove many, trust few, learn to paddle your own canoe.

Saw the lemon and thyme cake he made on the telly last night and am recreating it - but without the thyme (it's DD1's birthday and she wouldn't fancy the thyme..):jFlylady and proud of it:j0

The lamb steak he cooked wasn't exactly MSE though, was it? It would have fed a family of 4!
He's my favourite as well.

He's available on twitter and does talk to his viewers. He answers questions and is very approachable. I like him to.
If Nigel was cooking a large piece of Lamb, I was saying something similar about some recipes on Nigellas latest series the size of the pork and lamb used was so large I cannot imagine what it cost."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. I covet his pestle and mortar!
I used to like it when his cat joined in occasionally but he doesn't seem to be around any more.0
