  • Decorated and labelled my jars for home made food hampers today. Really happy with how the air dried lemon slices turned out as a decoration. Spending tomorrow and Friday making chocolate bark, fudge and honey comb - once they're done I can package them up and put them in hampers and again post pictures! Very excited and festive feeling now :)

Found this tutorial and then saw an advert in magazine- great idea!
Here's how to make a microwave heating bag:
    http://tipnut.com/make-your-own-microwave-heating-pad/

lots of suggestions included but using a cotton lining seems vital.
    Then I saw this advertised:

Here is my little creation for my in-laws. The base is made from a silver bucket which I bought from Ikea in the summer for around £1. I knew it would come in handy!! I stuck the silver ribbon covered stick in the centre of the bucket in plaster of paris and left it overnight to set. Meanwhile for the top part, I used oasis that I had left over from some floral arrangements which I cut to a rough circle and covered in a couple of layers of silver foil. Other people suggest using a polystyrene ball but I didn't have one to hand and couldn't have afforded to wait for one to be delivered so I improvised. Next I chopped some cocktail sticks in half and stuck each piece of liquorice into the foil covered ball with the half cocktail stick. It took just over 4 bags of liquorice and a couple of hours to complete whilst I was watching telly! I just added some clear cellophane over the top, some purple tissue paper to hide the plaster of paris and some Christmas ribbon to complete. I reckon the whole thing cost me less than £10 to make

Me & my daughter made home made gingerbread and stamped out hearts and christmas trees (I wont put the recipe here as there's loads online). But what made them extra pretty was cutting a hole/star or whatever out of the middle before baking. Then smash up some boiled sweets with a rolling pin, and sprinkle into the hole. In just the time it takes to bake the biscuit, the sweet melts, creating a stained glass effect. As we are giving them as gifts, we wrapped them in nice celophane bags (Hobbycraft, £2 for 50) and designed a home made label.

pic isnt brilliant, but here you go...

Thanks quinechinoise. Cant claim any credit for the idea... that was Nigella ;)

Gift tag was dead easy - just downloaded cupcake graphic & polka dot background for free from internet, and made them up in Microsoft Publisher.

    Xmas Saver!
I know its late for this xmas, but may be helpful for next yr.

(will upload photo, don't do organised at the mo!!) I've just come back from 5 days in Lapland,

One activity we did, was tree painting - brilliant

    - get a branch of tree, ideally need it to be at least 5 cm in width

    - one end of branch - cut that so you have a flat surface,

    - 2nd end - cut at an angle - HALF WAY UP - so you can have a fresh surface to paint

    - paint faces on it, - elves, father christmas, stick some cotton wool on for beards and hats.

    xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
