Bumpin up for those of us wanting an early start on 2013 xmas gifts!

I am in the process of making a list of homemade gift recipients, and spending my evenings on pinterest for inspiration!

I know its early - but going by seasonal fruit, just made some gorgeous home made marmalade/jam

    "Rhubarb and Orange"
    1kg rhubarb - roughly chopped
    1kg oranges -
    1.3kg sugar

    Method

    1. Peel the oranges and slice the rind thinly. Squeeze the oranges until you have 375ml juice.

    2. Combine the rind, juice, rhubarb and sugar in a saucepan and stir over a high heat, without boiling, until the sugar dissolves. Bring to the boil then continue to boil, uncovered, for about 45 minutes or until the marmalade gels when tested.

    3. Pour the hot marmalade into hot sterilised jars and seal immediately. Label and date the jars once cooled.

I got about 6 jars from that, tastes lush xx

Check out https://www.ravelry.com for knitting ideas and free downloads - I made a LOVELY cabled hot water bottle cover with a ribbon around it's neck, looked a lot more expensive than it was! I then bought the hot water bottle off ebay to go with it - all in all, about £8! I made three one for my mother in law, stepmum and sister-in-law!

    Hi All

Im sat having a look today for things to make cheapily for christmas.....need to try and save some money and we have just had a homemade fathers day which we made trophies from cups , tin foi, pipe cleaners and sticky shapes and filled with homemade fudge, and homemade cards

So it got me wondering about cost cutting for christmas..

for my nan I won a stitch your own daffodil tablecloth last year which I started and havent picked up again but I think for a lady who loves flower arranging this would be a beautiful gift.

I also last week ordered 50 x 4" squares of a variety of girly colours so Im looking for inspiration for what to make with them.

I have written a list of people I buy for and have realistically looked that if I spend £10 on everyone else besides my kids and partner - I have 11 people to buy for which would cost me £110 but Im hoping to make things cheaper.

So I will be watching this thread closely and hoping to contribute x
    Time to find me again

Ooooh Mum2One, your rhubarb and orange "Jammalade" is fab! I don't like marmalade, but do like rhubarb and oranges, separately and together. I saw that rhubarb and oranges were in A**i's super 6 this week so I gave it a go. Wonderful! I want to make more for Christmas gifts now, so lets hope there's some fruit left yet.
Maybe someone could start a thread with recipes based on Mr A**i's super 6 every week.

    Hi mum2one

I got 4 full 1lb jars from my making, plus a teeny wee scraping for sampling.

How much vodka do you add to the lemon base?

Tomorrow I'm going to try to get more rhubarb and oranges and I'm going to lakeland for some wee presentation jars, so I can see some lemon marmalade mix falling into my basket along with ....... oh I love that shop - it's bad for my wealth :)

    Thanks for your ideas. x
