My son has a learning disability, and at 14 still loves Father Christmas. Tonight we are decorating two plates with porcelain pens, one for Santa's snack and the other for Rudolph. I use Giotto decor pens, which can be used on porcelain, wood, Glass, plastic, etc. They are currently on offer at Amazon, 12 pens for £7.99. I have used these pens with Brownies and Rainbows before, so I know they are decent pens. They also offer a wider range of colours than most other packs I have seen.
Hope this helps someone.0 -
:jOoh, that's good to know, I hadn't tried it myself so I wasn't sure. I wonder whether they would survive a wash in the dishwasher? Maybe a hand wash might be safer.
I baked them at between 170-180 for about 30 minutes, and let them cool overnight in the oven. The directions I had said to hand wash them. I even used metallic Sharpies!~Steph~0 -
This isn't a gift, but it's handmade by me anyways! Made from 46p stockings from Tesco. I used felt, glitter pens, and sequins (I had all of the supplies at home).~Steph~0 -

wow thats a fab price, thank you, will be on my after xmas shopping list, do u still bake them in the oven as like with sharpies. (new to this additional crafting) xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
That was a mistake to 'nip' into town. I forgot my list to start with, went into the shops that I could remember that I was going to visit and stood there with a blank look on my face haha
I did manage to buy some nice muffin cases in Wilkies £1.50 for 12 that you could also use for chunks of coconut ice, brownies or even home made bath bombs, soap, candles, the list is endless - I thought that they were reasonable price but have just found them cheaper on amazon. Card warehouse sell cellophane by the metre but you have to ask for it - 99p a metre, which just having searched is not the cheapest option either ... I did however get 10 pairs of black socks for £5 - I don't know what else I bought but I came home laden about 4 hours later ... baking and making begins tomorrow assuming a nice steady day at work tomorrow and the needed oomph to make a start when I get home.
On a positive I printed the gift box template onto some thickish paper that I had and that turned out ok and a lot cheaper than buying boxes, the cheapest I found in card warehouse @ 59p - 99p and I used my nectar points to get a lego set for my nephew making it half price and up to the limit of my £5 budget for the kids in my life0 -
Is there a similar thread for other festivities like Valentines, Easter?

To be honest, I'm not sure. I have used the on plastic sun catchers, glass candle holders, wooden pencil boxes, etc, but not on porcelain as yet. The Rainbows and Brownies have always taken their crafts home, and most are things that are not washed regularly, so the issue of washing off hasn't arisen.
We didn't have time to decorate the plates tonight, so will hopefully do that tomorrow. I might try a patch on the back to try out 'washability' and will report back0 -

Thank you for all your kind comments on my cards everybody  Going to be making up my home made food hampers in the next couple of days as well as bags of chocolate bark and fudge so will be sure to post those too.
This isn't a present but something I made to hang our cards on. Again, got the idea from Pintrest. It's not as 'rounded' as I would like to be honest and I didn't want to leave as much of a gap at the top as I have but I ran out of pegs :rotfl: so had to wind tinsel round which again, I'm not too happy about because I'm not tinsel's biggest fan! :rotfl: But I am pretty pleased with the result.
It's a wire coat hanger unravelled and pulled into a circle. Then I painted 45-50 pegs in green paint (free Dulux sample from a freebies code thread on MSE) and you basically alternate between red beads and pegs. You open the peg and put it so the wire is as close as you can get it to the hinge so that it actually closes and stays put. Cost me £1.50 altogether. I superglued the ends of the wire together. You are meant to wire cut off the twisty parts of the coat hanger but I am without wirecutters! So I just unravelled, superglued them together after everything was threaded on and hid with tinsel. If I'd had it, I'd have used some red ribbon wrapped around and finished with a bow at the top but again, I didn't have those things at the time. Anyway, here are the pictures:T Mummy to 1.
