    Hi Everyone!
This is my very FIRST post. I was JUST looking online tonight for a host/hostess gift for the couple who are hosting Christmas dinner. I've become addicted to the website Pinterest, and have come up with these ideas for a cute and relativity inexpensive gift.

    DIY Bespoke Coffee Mugs
    1) Buy 2 cheap, plain, white coffee mugs (Ikea?, charity shops?).
    2) Decorate with Sharpie Markers.
    3) Cure in the oven to be permanent (30 minutes at 180*C)! (note, need to be hand-washed).

    AND....

    DYI Chocolate Spoons
Can be made with plastic spoons. Melt chocolate and dip spoons in. Decorate still-wet chocolate with peppermint shards, sprinkles, candy, marshmallows, etc. Can be used in coffee or hot chocolate for fun flavours!

Luckily I have most of this at home (I don't drink a lot of coffee/tea and I live alone, so I'm giving up 2 mugs from my dishes set), so it's looking to be a cheap yet neat treat!

I have the links for these projects in case you want them. As a newbie, it won't let me post them. Just PM me if interested!

    Happy Holidays, everyone!

Thanks for this and welcome to the crafty section of MSE. Just to say, I'm also addicted to pinterest and found this link:
    http://thehuntedinterior.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/diy-santa-plate-pinterest-fail.html
...which suggested that Sharpies may not fix in your oven so you may need to use a proper porcelain pen. There is a new one out that doesn't need fixing in the oven, it just needs drying - for three days! (just allow yourself enough time). ;)
I don't want to make money, I just want to be wonderful

That's very sweet. I'm sure the grandparents will love it:j

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2560947

it was item 499, and a couple of posts later talks about the quantities

You melt the chocolate and mix in smashed up peppermints... have fun!!

Sounds like the right one. Thanks so much. Thats what i'll be doing once the small person is in bed!
  • Don't know if it's too late to help folks, but i know people have been trying to get bath pearls for using with flannel cupcakes etc. I found a box of 18 for £1.99 in the local branch of CARD fact----. Not sure if i can put the full name without breaking any rules. hope this helps even if it is just early for 2013!!

Couldn't work this post out! However have scrolled back and see they are themes for hampers!
    Now I can start thinking!!

I think the baking one or the home brewing will be the easiest- loads of baking items like silicone cases, fancy cutters, silicone brush, silicone spoons & scraper, unusual recipes (free supermarket recipe cards) Homemade cooks apron & maybe a chef's hat (to match)

... Brewing...is that wine or beer? labels, neck labels, crown caps, corks, downloadable recipes, bottle caps, clean empty bottles especially half bottles (then you can try the brew to see if it is ready) but it is a lot harder to think of things you could make!- unless you print all the labels
