  • I think some of you may need to rethink your direct debits. This time last year I was putting in £10 per week for my electric. (3 bed semi with a meter that I 'inherited' when I moved in and actually quite like having instead a bill cos i can keep track). Then it went up to around £17 per week and this past week (price increase again this month), I have put in the monstrous amount of £28 !! in one week. I have just emailed Southern and asked for someone to ring me as a matter of urgency. No way can I afford that kind of tarrif.

I think some of you need to think what you have plugged in?
By that I mean....american fridge freezers, or 3 freezers in one house, large ovens, electric fires. pond pumps, jacuzzi. CH on for many hours.
    Oh! and large plasma tv.

  • I have a fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine. laptop. 2 tellys, the iron (as little as possible, lol) lights. Kettle but only make 2 hot drinks a day as we rarely drink hot drinks. Shower.
I just can't think what I'm doing any differently to last year. i know we have had price increases but this is ridiculous.

Yes, I can tell you now....
We both live in a 3 bed semi.
Yours £145 v mine £66.12 DD per month = you are paying over double what I pay. 4 adults living here.

We are low users because I have put the homework in over time. At my highest a few years ago we paid £95, I have worked on cutting down since, as prices rise.

Can you share your cost cuttings tips. I have a town house with integral garage 3 bed with 2 teenagers and 2 adults. Gas central heating, gas hob and electric oven don't use tumble dryer more than once or twice a year emergencies only. 2 fridge freezers 4 laptops Xbox 4 mobiles. Washing machine and dishwasher on daily. 1 tv big 1 tv small ironing as little as possible lol
We pay £104 per month for both gas and electric with eon.

How long is a piece of string?

It's difficult to compare usage without taking into account all the factors:

    Where you live
    what type of accommodation
    State of insulation, windows etc
    How many people in house
    Etc

You often get people boasting about how low their bills are (not saying anyone is doing that on this thread) but they often forget to mention they live in a flat (that loses less heat) or that they are the types of people that are always hot or that they live down south in a sheltered area. I could go on.
