Okay,so i bunged 8 on my main media hub PC
I did a fresh install of W7 64 bit a few weeks ago,so went with an upgrade
Not what i would usually do but the macine was pretty vanilaa from the install(for a new SSD)
had an issue with a black screen and only the mouse pointer showing in low res, after the installation reboot.
had to remove my 460 GT card. then retry. seems to be fine with the card now.

    boot times faster than W7
I dont use IE,but it flies in W8

Im really not sure about the new start screen. to me it feels very tacked on to what is a very W7 experience.
speaking on experience, the experience index on W8 refuses to complete for me.

takes a bit of getting used to where things like the power button etc are

I missed my gadgets so used a 3rd party program(app?) to bring them back

The Bing bar doesn't work in 8,needs run in 7 compatibility
EA origin stopped working today(unsupported OS error),needed a reboot and it worked. looking online other folks have an issue with Origin.
Dont know who the fault lies with on that.

Not really keen on having to log in all the time on a home machine.

Like the ribbon options within control panel options etc
odd little tweaks and changes catch my eye sometimes.
like I changed the volume in game today using my keyboard buttons. this brought a small W8 volume display up in game

I'll wait a while longer before going over to smash their place up.
  • boot times are quicker because it uses a hybrid of hibernation, the boot time is slower when there is a full reboot needed (e.g. after Updates)

Oh and I still haven't got my Media Centre key after 36.75 hours, give me a lift Nifty Digits if you're going smashing their place up....

Been using it for a while.

If you have a touchpad that allows you to swipe and do all the fancy stuff it's brilliant.

I got to say, I'm selling my MacBook Air that I only just brought a few months ago for a brand new Tablet/Ultrabook/Convertible.

    Call me a convert.

    I applied yesterday...

Waiting until it arrives before wasting my £15.

I was wondering why the desktop was defaulting to the basic display with solid square window borders, but it appears that they have taken out the Aero transparency options that allow you to have translucent window borders.

You still get it on the task bar, but windows have plain borders.

What did they do - fire all of their UI designers and developers?

unfortunately the fashion with hi-tech start ups is on a minimalist phase at the moment, so just clean design, no useless visual effects, which is a bit sad in some respects.
They are probably trying to get people off the classic-classic win 2k / 9x theme, who refuse to use anything else.

People get bored of UIs every 4/5 years so the fashion swings around, like iOS looks pretty dated because it hasn't really changed in 5 years
