Has anyone upgraded to Windows 8 yet (download released today) and is it worth the £25 and what are the benefits over Windows 7.

I'm wondering about this too - I'm about to buy a new laptop and I'm not sure whether to get Windows 8. My brother has said it's basically a new skin on top of windows 7, more for touch screens, and i'd only end up reverting back to the windows 7 style anyway so there's no point.0

Windows 8 is really good. It works just as well with a mouse and keyboard as it does with a touch screen. Currently, I mostly use the desktop (old Windows style), but there will be more and more apps released that make the most of Windows 8, and eventually I'll barely need to use it at all!Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
Currently downloading it. Will let you know how it goes.
Only downloading it as I'm still on Vista and missed the W7 boat. At £25 it would be stupid not to upgrade now.
If I had W7 I might not have bothered.0 -

That appears to be only for Wondows 8 Pro. Does it work for the other editions...without paying?0 -
Problem with jumping on a bandwagon too quickly is you end up falling off.
A lot of companies are just now starting to migrate to win70 -

no you have to be running Pro to get Media Center at all, the £24.99 upgrade is for Pro, but if you buy a new computer with just plain Windows 8 then you need to upgrade to Pro before you can get Media Center.0 -
Thanks, just ordered it and it is downloading now..0

Just spent 30 minutes playing with a touch screen PC running Win8 and I really liked it in the end. It took a while to learn how to navigate without a Mouse/Keyboard but its very easy when you know where to find things.
The UI is pretty nice, having the live tiles updating information on one screen is very nice and I look forward to trying WP8 when some phones come out in the coming weeks.
A lot of people seem to hate the new UI because of the way it works. When you think about it all you use Windows for is to open applications, clicking on big icons is no different to clicking on lots of small ones dotted around your desktop and with the live tiles updating you on news/weather/messages etc all in one place that is an added bonus.
Going to be getting a Pro version to test it at the office and see how that goes with all our applications/printers etc.0 -
