House sold - I left some rubbish in the loft

I just sold a house about 3 weeks ago.
:j
In the rush I left 2 single beds in the shed with other rubbish such as leaves, etc. I got a call from my solicitor saying that the new owners solicitor had requested that I remove the rubbish. I thought it petty but took a morning off work and did it anyway.
I must admit that when I checked the paperwork, I should've removed all unnecessary items:o .
I put the rubbish in the bin, because that's where rubbish is kept. I do not carry bin bags around with me (who does) so I put the rubbish straight in the bin, I have done this for 20 years without much grief.
In hindsight, I left some old nick-nacks (rug and some wood) in the loft, but I'm sure this is quite normal, i've never moved house and not found something left in the loft that the previous occupant forgot about.
You may wonder where all this is going? Let me tell you, he is talking about transporting all the things he doesn't want to my house and dumping it on my newly mown front lawn:eek: . What's up with this dude? He has to pass the local tip on the way to my house, why doesn't he just drop it off there?
He's been wittering on about it now for three weeks, he's seriously twisting my melon man.
He's told my solicitor that he doesn't have a wheelie bin! I know that, I lived there !!!!!!, why doesn't he just put it in a black bag and let the bin men take it away, that's what council tax is for.
If you don't believe me check this link he is even asking random strangers on the blasted interweb now:mad:

I think you're really bad. Personally, I'd dig a hole in your lawn and dump the stuff in it.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Eermmm...when I move I will most certainly ensure that ALL my rubbish is removed and that the place is spic and span! Why? Because I have my pride and self respect and certainly do not want the next people who move in thinking I am a total slob and couldn't be bothered in moving the junk I created!!
If everyone moved their OWN rubbish and left their previous premises in a clean state, it would be so much better for everyone.0 -

I agree entirely with everything you have said. Its just total laziness IMO.

When I left a previous rented premises and the agent went around to do a check before handing back my deposit, she couldn't believe how clean the place was. She said she wished all tenants left it so. I had washed out the all cupboards including in the bedroom. Had the carpets cleaned, the bathroom had been washed down totally, fridge washed out etc. The people moving in could place their stuff in straight away without having to clean a thing.
Besides trying to be considerate to the next person, I couldn't bear the thought of them finding some of my 'dirt'....eewww...! :rotfl:
Anyway, the letter they wrote thanking me was an excellent reference for the next house I rented!0 -

You seem to have been very unlucky. We have never had a problem, the properties have have always had EVERYTHING of the previous owners removed by them and we have done like wise.
You even say you now realise you should have removed all uneccessary items. Yet even when you were asked to rectify your previous oversight you failed to take responsibility for your possesions. Why?
Why do you think it is OK for you to leave your rubbish in somebody elses house, but not OK for this person to return it to you?Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

I have to say that I see where your buyer is coming from. When we bought our house loads of stuff was left behind and it is not a simple matter to get rid of it. Nowadays with alternating rubbish collections etc it isn't easy to get rid of large amounts of waste, especially when a house move produces enough of your own. Council tips are also only open during work hours so that is no help if you are at work all day.
I too would come and dump it on your lawn, it is after all your mess.0 -

Tell him he got a deal - the beds can be sold on ebay and you won't even ask for your share. Everyone's rubbish is someone else's gold - tell him to think laterally and recycle.FREEDOM IS NOT FREE0 -
How can he prove that the said rubbish is from you? So why can he just dispose of it himself??
In the last house I moved in previous family left loads of old furniture, carpets beds etc, even though it was specifically requested for it to be removed. They did not but we moved in and decided to just dispose of it ourselves.
In the last house my folks moved in the previous family left as much rubbish as they could. My dad desribes it as enough to fill over 100 black bags. No jokes I saw an old photo and one room was piled so high in junk the door was could be opened.
Write back to him asking how can he prove its from you. And if tries to dump any material in your present house, you will call the police over illegal fly tipping.0 -

Just because 'so and so' did it doesn't make it right for us to leave our rubbish behind. If everyone removed their own it would be so much better. It's through this type of mentality that there is so much 'decay' socially. Everyone is waiting for the next one to clean up for them. Let's show some responsibility for a change.0
