I don't know what was posted that everyone is upset about (haven't been on this site today...) but I did read the original post yesterday and meant to comment then.

I work with people with conditions such as schizophrenia, I'm sure if he has been accessed as being "fit" to be back in the community that this decision has not been taken lightly, he will be being monitored and a condition of his "release" could be that he continues to be monitored and takes his medication (they may even give him injected medication, so he cannot not take it.)

If a schizophrenic takes there meds, then they are just like anyone else, the medication fixes the imbalance in their body. It sounds as though this man has a caring mother and I'm sure she will be on the lookout for any changes in his behaviour and "if" this occurred would get him help asap. Having schizophrenia doesn't make him dangerous...anyone of us could be living next to someone with this condition and not even know it.

Whenever I take any of the people I care for out, I am shocked by the way some people react to them (as with some of them, it is rather obvious they have "problems.") And I've had comments like "they shouldn't be allowed out" when they are doing nothing wrong at all, just because they look or sound a bit different.
