The windows are being installed under a council loan scheme that replaced council grants. Basically the council give the money to a loan company who lend it at a competitive interest rate that the council subsidise. Then the old person just pays the interest and the capital is paid off when they pass away. They came last February and did the assesment and Mum is having 8 new windows, 2 new doors and a patio window. There are already 4 replacement windows that were done about 20 years ago and they are ok. They are also making the electrics up to date and fitting a new radiator in the lounge ( that there is a grant for). The loan is about £7500.00 and includes 10% contingency ( in case they come accross any unforseen problems ) and a fee for the agency that does the forms etc for the council. Then all she has to pay is about £25.00 per month in interest. Bearing in mind her gas bill last winter was £166.00 per month as she is heating outside aswell as the windows are so bad.
But my eldest brother especially said it was a waste of money and it would not add value to the house so whats the point. ( This is the brother who left them with the mortgage and had about £40,000 from them already). After a lot of fighting with them they finally gave in about 4 weeks ago and we are just awaiting the forms to sign then it will be done.
I chased the chap on Friday and will call him again Monday to see where we are.
Regarding the bank accounts etc I am just going to ignore them and carry on as before. My eldest sister even wants me to ration my Mum's money and not let her use her debit card. ???
    Thanks everyone

your family are the strangest bunch ive ever known.

You need to tell your pathetic brother to froff off for a start, pay his own debts back the sponging div

your mum is more important than your brothers and sisters pockets being lined what a selfish bunch of nobodies.
You can't make someone love you. All you can do is
stalk them & hope they panic & give in

God created men first, cause you always makes a rough draft before a masterpiece!

Would anyone who's found these darn things mind posting where/what type of store/where in store they have actually found them please!! I officially give up:p:(

Hi, I have found them this lunch time in Sainsbobs. It was quite a big store, just been revamped. There were two flavours, The sea salt and balsamic vinegar ones the coupon is for, and sweet chilli (pinkish box).

They resemble a smallish box of cereal, blueish in colour and they were in the crisps and snacks aisle. HTH
  • Sorry, not able to catch up, but just wanted to list this from a Mr T womble:

I saw them in a Morrison's yesterday, on the end of an aisle with a £1 trial offer SEL. You didn't look to get a lot for your money though  (or not your money, as the case may be :rotfl:)

I found these for 57p in my local Tesco Extra: http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/ocado-compare-prices/frozen_vegetarian/goodlife_glamorgan_sausages_with_leek_and_cheddar_6_per_pack_300g.html

Goodlife Glamorgan Sausages with Leek & Cheddar (6 per pack - 300g)

SEL said £2.29, they say "cheddar" on MSM but actually there is no cheese in them? They are gluten free & suitable for veggies & vegans.

Edit: they are in the frozen section, with Free From foods.

She also bought a diary that I am supposed to write down everything I spend from her account. She started using it when she was looking after Mum last week and I looked in it when she left and just laughed. All she wrote was where she drew out money , then wrote Tesco or Lidl each day then put that £10.00 was in Mum's purse. Mum quite often puts money in her apron and I was also told to stop her doing it and I just said its her money she can do what
    she likes with it.
Mum got Sky in June and does not use it much as she is not used to it yet but it is cheaper for her to have Sky tv, Broadband and phone than the Talk Talk phone package she had before. So as Mum does not use it much my sis suggested I hide the ordinary tv remote so she would have to use the Sky as that would be the only remote she had.
You could not make it up.
