Sorry, you have no legal right to a reduction in what you have paid just because the product went down in price after you bought it.

The more people who play this game the more the rest of us will face raised prices too.

Can you find another store with the £25 printer in it? If so, buy that.
Return the £50 printer and get a full £50 refund.

At least traipsing around various branches of Tesco with a printer under his/her arm keeps the OP off here.

I doubt whether my sanity could take any more.

    today:

store 1: cashier was happy to do it but needed manager as it was a refund higher than £30. Manager came over, said I couldn't do it what I was trying, said the printer would be sent away, very stubborn, you know the type.

store 2: manager sympathetic recommended taking it back to the store I got it from and that its the store managers decision

store 3: young girl on till, no problem at all, done it 30 seconds.

Exactly, but hey, he/she is £25 in pocket so what is it to them that somebody may enter the disciplinary process.

Do they look at every transaction that goes through the till then?

I would expect there is a refund report that prints out and gets looked at daily/weekly
