MSE News: EE reveals 4G prices... which aren't cheap

EE need to offer unlimited 3G after the 4G runs out to stop this turning into a major PR disaster for them. Everyone would be relatively happy if this were to happen and EE wouldn't lose much (if any) money per contract.
I do wonder if T-Mobile will shelve their Full Monty plan next year as this may impact on people changing over to 4G.
Maybe it's 4G caps? 3 unlimited, we can dream.
Full Monty will disappear as will TMOB eventually, 3 brands cost more than 1, anyone remember BT Cellnet & Genie?SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -
I was hoping I'd be able to get some information from people who understand all this 4G stuff (and care about it).
I'm a sad mobile 'phone user who uses it - as a 'phone. I don't watch TV on it - I have a TV for that. I don't access the internet on it - I have a computer for that. I don't take 'photos with it - I have a camera for that. All I want is a 'phone, that's mobile. Texts are superfun, and I'm going to miss them.
Today I learned from Orange that my PAYG system will no longer be available because there's fun fun fun to be had at £46 a month. I don't spend that a year! I don't care about high speed anything and I really, really mind about receiving a promotional text that I can't now TXT STOP to 60009 - because I'm not allowed to send texts any more. In other words, EE, Orange's familiar, is going to steal all of my PAYG balance sending me carp sales ads with my money and then expect me to be grateful to them for allowing me to buy modern technology.
I don't furrin' think so.
PS Does anyone know if there's a PAYG plan out there that I could get for roughly £50 a year? I genuinely don't need all of the whistles and bells, just calls - texts would be useful.Better is good enough.0 -
payg is remaining ? call 450 & report these textss you are being charged for.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0

Thanks Diamonds. Sadly 450 doesn't give me any option to salvage my remaining credit other than ... drum roll ... sign up for a package!Better is good enough.0

payg is not being discontinued ? id suggest you speak to a human on 450, something technical is not right !SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... Sorry Diamonds we appear to be at cross purposes. PAYG is being discontinued, I can't send texts but I can still receive them. Unfortunately I have now started receiving marketing texts which I can't stop and my understanding is that I pay a few pence each time I receive a text, although I may be wrong about that. There is no option to speak to anyone on 450. Orange have lost my loyalty, after all these years of me being a happy customer. Hey ho.Better is good enough.0

Not sure what you mean by discontinued?
PAYG is still available on Orange website and i cant see them ever discontinuing it.
What exactly have they told you?
I im pretty sure they cant charge you for marketing texts either, but i may be wrong0 -

Hi everyone! I feel bad that my first ever post on here is a questionning one, but i'm not totally sure the above statement is correct.
Dual Cell HSPA won't come close to the speeds of 4G from my understanding - Around 25mb vs 40mb i beleive......
i've done a bit of research on this as i was initially really excited about the 4G offering as it looked like it would be great to save some money (merge Sky Broadband and BT line, mobile phone bill, iPad SIM contract etc) in to 1 cheaper payment per month as the 4G mobile connection could be used throughout the house when i'm there.
Personnally i'm really not happy with the pricing and can't see many people adopting it for what its actually intended for
They've turned a potential revolution in to a party trick.0 -
Honeybear, not sure why u think PAYG is being discontinued, but that is absolutely false. You might not be able to send texts as you've run out of credit - the fact you can still receive them suggests this to be the case. It might be the marketting sms's have eaten up your credit if they are being charged to you, which you can claim back if you phone Orange customer services and complain
Hope that helps ya'll0 -
I am not disappointed that unlimited data is not an option, unlimited data is unsustainable even for LTE, on the other thread I posted some solutions of a fair deal for the user without giving unlimited data which can be abused by a minority these were:
1. (my personal favourite and the solution I would want)
is to give a 'practically unlimited' limit, something like 60GB (able to use however you want), that's more than plenty for everyone but stops the select few people downloading hundreds of gigabytes.
2nd solutions is like T-Mobile do now, you have a limit (1GB on T-Mobile but I would expect 5 or 10GB as an absolute minimum on LTE) then if you reach that limit it cuts you off from high intensity downloads eg iPlayer ect. but you are still fully able to surf the internet and send email no problem.
A third possible solution is to have a limit (again 5-10GB as a minimum) but then have the limit not count (or a high off-peak limit something like 60GB) at certain times and in areas where network saturation is low, ie everywhere at night time and all the time in rural areas where they may be only a couple of villages using a mast.
You can always have extra add-ons for the few who need more data, in exactly the same way as EE is having but £20 should buy 20GB not 4, there certainly shouldn't be any overcharges it should either cut you off from data until you buy an add-on or cut you off from data intensive downloads (as per 2nd solution).
All solutions should always include tethering within any limits, I've said before 1GB of data downloaded from a phone or PC is the same, give people a limit and let them use it however they see fit, at worst case for the networks all they would have is people buying more data add-ons.0
