I have signed up to a few MS companies now and have had/got assignments with retail eyes and Baidata, This is something I would like to do full time eventually, is this a possibility?......I'd hate to give up my current situation in the future in the vein hope of actually thinking I could rely on this as a steady income one day?..what do you all think/know?......................Is it a possibilty?

    Thanks

and just for the record....It's lucky I was doing a Mystery shop for Morrison's customer services line the other day as they would of failed 100%!!.......My daughter got run over the other day by a pallet truck in their store.....she screamed and fell to to ground. The idiot handling the Hand truck ran over her foot and it was so heavy he couldn't control it!...I telephoned head office customer services and I was passed onto 2 different women...both of them had cold, expressionless voices, no whiff of an apology and they tired to turn the convo around to say I should of reported it to the store manager instead!......Please give me a telephone assignment NOP! LOL ;)

Becles could tell you more,or if you read back over this huge thread she mentions a few times that she does it fulltime, but auditting aswell as mystery shopping :)

I guess it depends what area you are in / how much work you are offered etc

I know it wouldnt create enough income / work for me fulltime but its a good sideline and im happy with the amount ive made in the past few months :)

I've just requested the forms to get ,yself registered for tax, although I signed up for MS in July, I didn't actually do my first shop until the end of August so I'm still within the 3 months.

Does anyone know if this means I'll have to send in a Self Assessment form every year now, even if I give up MSing?

Also, does anyone have a basic spreadsheet that they use to log their earnings?

Can we claim things such as stationary (i.e. printer inks and paper) and internet connection as expences to be deducted from the earnings?

If you just do MS normal jobs I don't think you could make enough for a steady income.

If you are willing to consider other jobs like video MS work, merchandising and auditing, you can make a decent income from it. That's what I do full time!

You just need to sign up with as many as you can, then concentrate on being the perfect worker for the handful of companies you like best.

I'm not sure what happens with self assessment once you have finished MS work. I would think once you stop and have submitted your last set of accounts the forms will stop.

I don't use a spreadsheet - I prefer an accounts notepad. I just jot down every day money coming in and money coming out, then balance it up at the end of each month. All my reciepts for that month get stapled to the sheet, so they are handy for reference if needs be.

You can claim for the cost of stationary as long as it's solely used for business use. Also remember other bits and bobs you might buy for work, such as pens and stamps. You can't claim all the cost of an internet connection, as it will be used for personal use too. I claim half the internet and half the phone line costs, as they are used for both business and personal use.

I'm not sure what happens if you have 2 SE jobs. I think you would just add it all together as you only get 1 SE section on the tax return. Check that out with someone more knowledgable just to make sure though!

We run our own chocolate-making business and I also do mystery shopping now (many thanks to Beccles, without whom I wouldn't have learned half so much). Everything goes on the same form at the end. You can either show it as separate during the year and total it up at the end, or you could run all SE things together. Keep your paperwork as simple as possible and keep all your receipts.

    hi
urgent help needed here! I have just completed a clothing shop assigment for grassroots, in my brief I had to make a purchase and it stated a minimum of £5. I saw a nice top for £15 so bought that. Now when I go to key in the results its saying that the £5 maximum has been exceeded? its sat so none is going to be available till mon and their office. Should I key in the results but put in £5 instead of £15? this is my first assigment and I really dont want to mess it up! please help lol dont know what to do!
