The way I look at it is that washing machines are pretty blimmin good. And so are modern detergents. If we can sleep on bedding with various bodily fluids washed out of it and shove our knickers in the wash when we've been caught by an early period, then it's no different. They are fine on 40 degrees but I clean them straight away. I started using them as a natural progression from using washable nappies with our son. I just threw them in with the nappies.
Also, reuseable sanitary protection is hardly a new idea to reply to those who are a bit squeemish. I know it's not for everyone but I do wonder what the squeemish would have done in the days when 'on the rag' was a literal expression.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
I was a devout tamponist too but I really like my Mooncup
....questions.... no they don't smell, yes it can get a bit messy but you do all that while you're sat on the loo so it's 'contained'. If I was going out and thought that I might need to empty it I would take one of those bottles of water with a sports cap to rinse it, though other people just use loo roll to wipe it after emptying it. Yes you do get it on your fingers but you can wipe them and then wash them straight away.
I did say on the other thread that it took a few months to get used to it but once I did I much prefer it, I can keep an eye on what's going on down there and I definately, definately don't get as much period pain as with tampons.
The best bit is that after my heavy days have passed where I empty the cup morning, tea time, and bedtime (and before going out/riding/running)..... I have almost a week where I only need to bother with it morning and bedtime. It's not as inconvenient as tampons and towels.Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
Janice wrote:As an added benefit, a lot of women (myself included) find that menstrual cramps are reduced.
now that's a good selling point!! although i find i get awful cramps the day before i'm due, so maybe it wouldn't help so much with them.
i have to say i bulk bought tampons in the US and so far they've lasted 2 and a half years!! this is an interesting option..... might have to plan a first try of it when i'm mainly going to be at home (just too scared of what might happen if it all goes wrong in a puplic place!):happyhear0 -

I don't seem to get any pain with tampons tbh - the only pain I get is with PCOS. I'm afraid to say that I have used a mooncup (family recommendation) and I just couldn't get on with it at all. It was just too messy and fiddly for me. I prefer tampons.
The only thing about periods I cannot stand (for me anyway) is the severe depression I get for about a week before or a week after - totally unbearable (even though it's being treated). Nightmare.Everyone has a photographic memory, it's just some of them don't have film.0 -

Tamponist - I like that word
Hello, my name is Quackers and I'm a devout tamponist
Haven't laughed so much - especially not on MSE - for ages, I just love the phrase devout tamponist! However am sick of the price of them especially with me and 3 daughters to buy for so will look at the sights, but for now just the thought of it........
I can hardly wait to tell the girls tee hee their faces will be a picture! -'you do what!?'0 -

black-saturn wrote:Must admit I'm having trouble with that. I might have to boil wash them with some bleach soon as they are getting a bit stained.
Black-saturn, I'm also having some problems with staining on these pads but have used a stain devil for blood on them a few times and they seem to help a good bit.
I first got these pads after reading about them on these forums and I agree with most of the posters they are much more comfortable than disposable sanitary pads.
