After my second month of trying the mooncup I abandoned it due to difficulty getting the thing out! I've cut the stem down but it's too short to grasp now, is it better to cut it off altogether so that I can pull the bottam of the mooncup?
Awww don't give up just yet, I'm sure it'll get easier, practice makes perfect! :p

I cut pretty much all of the stem off and find the easiest way to remove it is to grab the bottom of the cup and squeeze lightly (!). It sort of breaks the seal and it's easier to get it out that way... But try and see what works for you!

And regarding dropping the blimmin thing down the toilet - been there, done that icon11.gif... Thankfully this was at home - goodness knows what I'd do if it was a public loo!!!
  • I don't think I'd ever use mine again if I dropped it down our loo at home - not if the OH had just been to the loo anyway!!

Or in a public one. Yuk!! I'd probably want to boil sterilise it first.

Well....my mooncup was in the bathroom having just been washed and ready to be sterilised. My 3 yr old son just came out of the bathroom with the stem in his mouth blowing it like a trumpet and then dangling it like a bell and singing "Jingle bells" before asking..."what is it Mummy? Is it a bell?" _pale_ :o

    Doh!

  • haha LMAO petal! - But YUK!

I love my mooncup. I used to have to use a super duper duper plus tampon, an always pad, and a bulky night time towel when I went to bed, and i STILL had to get up at 4am to change!! Now I sleep like a baby.

I dont understand why you have to boil it for 5 or 6 minutes to sterilise it. Cant you sterilise a baby bottle teat by boilinbg for a minute?

  • I've used my stash of cheap tampons to, so this is my first time with a mooncup, it's brilliant well chuffed with it.
I've found no problems whatsoever, and so easy to use - no damp ickyness or leakage
I don't understand why they say to boil it for 5 mins though - I've been using a Femcap for a long while now (silicon cap) and they only recommend wash with hot soapy water- hey ho

Thanks to everyone for the help and advice and laughter in this thread.

    cheers

I love my mooncup!! Wouldn't be without it.... :T

I bought a pack of sterlising tablets from Tesco for about 80p, you get loads! I just put it in a jug of hot water with one of these tablets and leave it overnight... smells like new in the morning!

I think this is my first post, so be nice! I've been lurking for AGES though!

Found me a Mooncup in Boots yesterday for just £9.99! It was on the clearance shelf (which was extra-full due to a post-sales clearout I think).

They had loads on there - I reckon they might be getting rid of them altogether, maybe there is a newer version coming out, or Boots aren't going to sell them any more?

Either way, have a rummage round your local Boots clearance shelf and get one quick!
