I paid with pay pal using my visa debit card and the money came straight out of my bank account. I didn't realise there were different ways of using a debit card to fund pay pal.

Thanks gives me more hope that when I sort out my info for Santander I shall be able to say other banks are refunding! I paid in the same way as you, just with a different bank!

I just wish those people that were defending this bloke and having a go at those of us who were trying to get their money back would come back and read this thread to see the misery and heartache the conman has caused. I hope everyone who is still fighting the banks manages to get a refund.

Indeed. But given the registered name it's odd that the domain is neilalveygolf and not neillalveygolf, isn't it?

Unfortunately I paid by paypal but the money came from my bank via direct debit, not via a debit card. Before all this fiasco happened I had no idea how useless it is to have your paypal account funded direct from your bank. I would have been much better off if I had funded paypal either by my credit card (which it used to be- aaargh) or via debit card. At least one good thing has come from all of this, I am far better educated on how to fund paypal now!

snap. I am making changes too.
I did get hampers, but not quite what I ordered. At the time I was annoyed, but now realise how lucky I actually was.

agreed also i now will also review online purchases
that i make in light of this too and use the old adage " if a deal looks too good to be true its because it most probably is "
    which is a shame !

Hasn't this whole mess really opened your eyes to the lack of cover that's in place for consumers.

I wasn't aware of the minefield of mess regarding banks and PayPal, personally I paid with Barclaycard, I was outside the 45 day limit for PayPal by the time the hampers were due in the beginning of December. I put the transaction into dispute at the end of December and haven't heard anything else, so I don't know whether I'll get my money back yet.
Thankfully my second order (yes I was stupid enough to have also signed up for the 6 month deal at the beginning of December), was within the 45 days and PayPal processed that claim without any problems.

Moreover, I struggle to believe that we can just receive an email that advises, "we're closing, we're insolvent" and then nothing further seems to have happened. I don't see the announcement in the London Gazette or any change in the company status with Companies House.

I know we shouldn't be suprised that he's been so blase about it, but you'd have to wonder if this is exactly what happened the last time, although this time it appears to be on such a larger scale. Actually it was quite clever that some hampers were sent out at all, buys so much more time by appearing to just be a company struggling with orders.

Trading Standards seem to be a powerless setup, when they went to site in December and got the story about 50 outstanding orders and 2 lorries a day leaving with parcels it appears they have to just need to take that at face value, they don't seem to have the authority to ask him to back up these claims and as we found on here they were totally false claims.

As it appears that he hasn't paid suppliers and advertisers either you do wonder what the full extent of this fiasco has been yet no-one officially seems to be in a position to step in and give him a formal punch.

I'm presuming that suppliers who are likely to be owed thousands will be the tipping point with regards some proper legal action but let's face it he could be long gone by then, just biding his time for a few years till his financial history is wiped away and then nothing to stop him starting again.

I know that it's been commented upon as well about the overall lack of input from anyone from MSE. Many of us ordered on the strength of promotional messages on this site (I know that I certainly did) but now that it's all gone wrong everyone distances themselves from it.

Personally I feel stupid for being so trusting, thinking at the beginning of December that there was no need to worry when the goods didn't turn up in the first week and then gradually being caught up in the whole fruitless task of contacting the courier each day only to become more and more frustrated at being told there's nothing out for delivery today.

I think my alarm bells went up when I began to see his twitter feeds and couldn't believe that someone who was supposed to be running a professional business could be so rude and arrogant towards customers who were only asking for the goods they'd paid for after all.

I still feel annoyed at myself for allowing someone to lie so blantantly about everything even down to the rubbish about waiting for a chequebook.

In total it's been a costly lesson, but one heck of lesson learned by me.
