The Norfolk hamper company thread

I got refunded by my CC on 9th Jan after paying for my hampers back in October so out of time for paypal claim. American Express were brilliant. All they needed was a copy of my order/invoice and that was it. They were very sympathetic when I spoke to them on the phone too. :T:T
I just popped on here to see if the story was still running.... Can't believe what's happened. Hope everyone gets their money back and this Neil Alvery character gets his just desserts :mad:0 -
Story in the EDP today:

From the link in sproggis post
And in a new twist, a website first registered by Mr Alvey in 2011 has come to the attention of Trading Standards.
Alice Barnes, Norfolk County Council Trading Standards team manager, said: “We are aware there is a domain in the name of Suffolk Hamper Company.
“Norfolk Hamper Company have ceased trading however we continue to investigate potential criminal offences and are taking steps to prevent similar future breaches of consumer legislation in any business conducted by the trader.”
The domain name https://www.suffolk-hampers.com is registered to an address in St Margaret’s Way, Fleggburgh.
Mr Alvey was previously director of a hamper company called Gift Baskets Galore Limited that was registered to an address in Coxswain Read Way, Caister.
A service address in Stalham was given and Caroline Alvey was listed as company secretary.
The business was dissolved around 2007.
Mr Alvey did not respond to requests for comment.0 -
FAO Mr Neil Alvey - "You can only con SOME of the people SOME of the time."
Problems can be that "bent" solicitors can advise how to "work" the system - short term obviously as it catches up. But even ways to prolong that, any other company doesn't have to be set up in his name. He is not credit worthy any more.
I hope he is prosecuted, I hope he's chased and chased for years to come. He'd still be let off lightly though.
He must be a "laughing stock" in his neighbourhood and looking over his shoulder wherever he goes.
Are his curtains constantly shut??

Lets hope him and his family never try to run this type of buisness againNeeding to lose weight start date 26 December 2011 current loss 60 pound Down. Lots more to go to get into my size 6 jeans0 -
I'm glad the press are onto him. A much more realistic view from the EDP - well done them.
He can run but he can't hide. The more this is pursued the more chance he and those alongside him will be held accountable.
Thanks for the link Sproggi0 -
FINALLY the local paper, Eastern Daily Press, has done an article on the sorry saga. 'Better late than never' is what I tweeted to the journalist, letting him know that there are lots of unhappy people who think no one cares.
Hopefully the Trading Standards will keep on the case and find enough evidence to prosecute and stop him from trading in the future.0 -
Nice to see a truthful report on it all. It makes me sick though, as he even stung the local paper for adverts he put in, surely he had enough business anyway he couldn't fulfil!!
Another thing they need to look into, is to why he has stripped the premises, he is not entitled to do so as the racking and stock etc, fixtures and fittings were a part of the company.
Once he knew the company was insolvent, he was not allowed to touch it, as they formed part of the assets of the co, even though he was limited.
He would have been advised not to touch them, if he had sought proper advice, as they would been part of the liquidation process.
Basically hes done wrong here as well, as hes taken everything he can, stripped the shop bare, and prob sold on cheap etc, but hes not allowed to as he didn't own them, the limited co did!! This would mean he is swindling his own company of their assets. It gets worse doesn't it, but by the sounds of things the shop was nearly bare anyway!0 -

Yeah but..... he'll need it all for his next shop!
As for the EDP, the reporter looks to have read this thread as research :money:Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0 -
If the shop was rented rather than owned then any property of the company would of had to of been removed from the premises ASAP. It should of been an official receiver doing it rather than Neil though.
