  • I believe that paypal will only help if you are within the 45 days.

I think there is info on HMV and Jessops from Martin regarding chargebacks if the company goes under. I will have a look for it, it may help some of you who are out of the 45 day limit.

  • Is there any point trying to do a debit card chargeback for an order placed in November? I got some money back from PayPal for the dec order but was out of time for nov order. Any updates from Norfolk trading standards since the insolvency email?

Wonder how long before we see the Suffolk Hamper company up and running.....
  • This was stated for the customers who were affected by Blockbuster, it is definately worth a try:

If something goes wrong, or Blockbuster changes its policy, under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, card firms are jointly liable with a retailer if something goes wrong, if the item you bought cost over £100. But most of what Blockbuster sells costs less than that.

So if you paid by credit card for goods under £100, or any amount on a debit card, you may be able to claim via the Visa, Mastercard or American Express chargeback schemes.

This is an often little-known clause that allows you to claim within 120 days from your card provider. While this is in your contract with your card provider, it is not a legal right.

If you did buy something over £100 with a credit card, then you should be covered under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, giving you a legal right to claim from your card company.

Really hacked off now - gave him a chance - how stupid do I feel :( Might try ringing credit card company - see what they say.
Realised now I paid via paypal but the money came directly from the bank as I used the wrong card! Will try the chargeback method as it was £92.99 and see what they say. Will post back when I've contacted them.

I'm sorry for everyone who hasn't had their refund yet, and all of those who decided to give him a chance. Whatever has been said on here, it's not nice for anyone who has lost out.
  • Received email this morning too. I'd raised a claim with Paypal last week after giving NHC a few opportunities to respond direct. I knew that it was over 45 days since my transaction at the end of Sept but I listed the circumstances in anticipation of reasonable and informed responses by Paypal, got the standard Paypal response about their wait times while assessing case etc. Just checked the position with the transaction investigation and it seems they've closed the case. I'll pursue but what a shambles all this is turning out to be.
  • Oh no - this is awful. I'm so so sorry for everyone out of pocket in whatever context. :(

And as for the Norfolk Hamper Co and all those associated with it - hang your heads in shame and lets just hope what goes around, comes around.
  • I have just tried to do a paypal claim but as I am over the 45 days its been closed straightaway - am annoyed with myself for not doing it sooner!
