The Norfolk hamper company thread

  • I have refrained from commenting on this thread as I collected my hampers - 2 x 3+3 deal and one from the 12 over a year in the first week in December. I also ordered another which was delivered locally the next day. I am genuinely satisfied with the hampers I received apart from the out of date drinks in one which I opened today and I shall be taking this up with the company. Everyone who I gave the hampers to was pleased too.

However I am mortified at what has transpired on here and at what so many of you have gone through and really I feel for you and also feel more than a little relieved that I could collect mine and did do so. I took Neil at his word that my hampers would be ready to collect the first week in December and told him when I would collect them and I have to say they were ready but I didn't really give him much choice. I did feel he was an honest guy trying to make a living. His family were there, his wife was very pleasant and his children were there too. I really do feel he overstretched himself and just tried to wing it. Which was totally the wrong way to go about it.

I am trusting that the rest of my 12 hamper deal will be honoured and I will wait and see obviously, as it is too late for me to get anything back through paypal anyway.

I hope that this is all resolved soon to everyone's satisfaction and I hope that in spite of these difficulties you all manage to have a happy christmas.

I've tried very hard not to feel a bit jealous of those that have got their hampers, but I have to say that for every one person who is happy with what they received, there are six who aren't and three who didn't get theirs at all. That means a one in ten success rate which is terrible by any standards. Whilst I can't afford to lose the £80 from my one off hamper "deal", many more of you seem to be tied in to 12 month deals and I feel genuinely sorry for you worrying whether you will suffer the same fate every month. It seems as if your fears may be founded based on the comments of some of the early customers of the company.

What has shocked me though is that there are still some of his customers who think that it will be ok once Christmas is over and it sometimes feels like they are almost laying the blame at the feet of the people who only ordered Christmas hampers. There are now over 40 confirmed customers on this thread alone that have been let down so the true total must run into the hundreds. It is difficult to see how this clown will be able to continue, yet there are still people willing to give him a chance.

I feel most annoyed at myself though for not heeding all the warning signs. Paying on order rather than despatch, using PayPal, not checking previous testimonials, etc etc etc.

I have one last hope, and that is that he has an ounce of decency and refunds my money quickly and without fuss. Not holding my breath though.

I've just been reading this, & feel really sorry for all those people who appear to have lost out here. I had some unsatisfactory dealings with this guy earlier in the year; I ordered the picnic hamper 6+6 hamper deal for about £80, and had problems with delays of the first delivery, and lots of hassle chasing him up. He then delayed the subsequent ones on this deal, so I asked for the 2nd (Thorntons) ones earlier than this, so that I'd at least have the 4 hampers before my Paypal 45 day limit. They arrived eventually, later than promised (he was good at promising, bad at delivering even then!) - & with lower value contents than described, with about half the contents either out of date, or almost out of date. This was after he'd said on Twitter that everything had at least 12 months shelf life! I complained immediately, and he said he would refund me. The refund came through on Paypal as a delayed refund, which then failed, apparently as he said he didn't have enough cash in his account - which seemed pretty unbelievable for a competent business. I got the refund eventually, but he did get very nasty about it. Funny how he was so nice at first.
I didn't post this as a bad experience, as he DID refund me. I feel sorry now that I didn't warn people........

Oh Dear  seems to be going on for a while then, and seems like he never tried to change his ways after having trouble before.
There is obviously no hope for us that are waiting, and I can conclude that this will happen every month for everyone on the monthly deal.

And he had to cheek to say he was going to open 2 new shops :rotfl:
Said all along on he probably needed the funds up front to show the bank how good an investment he is :( lets hope we get our refund directly from Paypal and not his bank account eh !! Thats if Paypal feel sorry for us who are outside of the 45 day deadline :(

Seems very quiet on Twitter today, perhaps everyone on there apart from me, and a few others whom also post on here, got all their hampers !!

Perhaps we were on the naughty list for tweeting and the others are on the nice list and got theirs lol !!

Or perhaps everyone has just given up totally and not bothering to even tweet anymore !! As you never get a reply from him anyway !!

I've given up trying to contact him or ukmail via Twitter. Saw some pictures on there though of some hampers that did turn up, six out of eight were damaged. Broken jars, broken honey pots, torn wrapping. They were appallingly badly packed.

I really can't see his business surviving this episode, as i doubt he has the money to refund what must be 100s of unhappy customers (the ones posting on here are probably just the tip of the iceberg.......there must be others enticed via Twitter & the Ideal Home show who are only just realising the problems). He seems to have had a bizarre pyramid business model, that was destined to eventually collapse.
At this stage I still think it is down to total incompetence, together with dishonesty when things started to go wrong, rather than deliberate fraud. However if I find he's sending those e-mails from the Caribbean, I may revise my opinion........
