  • I know we're on MSE and these deals can work out well, but generally 'hamper' companies aren't that good value for money.

I know having a made up hamper sent to you is hassle-free and for some people that's what makes them a good deal but, money-wise, they're not all that great.

    For example -
On the NHC website there's a Matthew Walker Luxury Christmas Puddin (100g) for £2.99.
A quick Google reveals the same product on a different site for £1.49 - http://www.guntons.co.uk/acatalog/Christmas_Puddings.html (near the bottom)

Barkat Chocolate Cream wafers 100g are £2.49 on NHC, but on this site they're £1.49

Then there's the hamper on top which are pricey too. You can often find them much cheaper in Dunelm or places like Home Bargains or Wilkinsons.

Anyhow, I don't knock anyone for wanting to take the hassle-free route, but if you've got the time to do it the 'home made' way can work out cheaper
    :)
  • Hi all

I am in the same boat and new to this site but feeling so frustrated with this deal. I am out of the paypal 45 days also but i am thinking if the goods arrive late would i just be able to return under the distance selling regulations within seven days? And get a refund.

Any advice on this greatly appreciated I've read about it on internet but don't know much about the regulations.

He's had the flaming cheek to retweet from a customer who spent all day yesterday kissing his !!!! in order to get her hampers sent. It makes my blood boil when he ignores my tweets. I expect he will block me next.

As a blocked person I do actually think that if I hadn't gone on at him that I wouldn't have my hampers now> Very happily blocked as I never want anything else to do with them!

Was also gobsmacked at the retweet with so many people desperate for answers to their tweets. Shocking!

I wouldn't mind, actually. I like sourcing local foods to give as presents at Christmas. A hamper company would be right up my street.

Although I suppose they load the prices of some products to offset the 'deals' etc. Gotta make a profit somehow I suppose ...

You have to smile, wryly, at the blurb on their website:
Thanks to our years of experience and close customer contact, we at The Norfolk Hamper Company Ltd know what you want, make time for you and have made it our goal to fulfil all our customers' wildest dreams.

    :D
the ltd company was only started in july 2012
and neil avery is the only registered director.
we went to the shop today 13 of us however as a courtesy we nipped into the cop shop to inform them why we where going there and was told if we step on there frontage we would be arrested for trespass, even though we explained about the hampers owed they said he has made so many complaints they are hand tied.
needless to say we went to norwich trading standards and made 13 official complaints. and issued 13 online county court claims this afternoon.

The way he's going he'll probably have me arrested for laughing, but ..

One more thing, go on to their website and take screen shots of everything, including the front page of the Christmas 2012 page where they are still saying the hampers will be delivered by the first week in December! In particular, get pictures of what all the hampers look like on their site to compare with what you receive (if you do!) If you don't have a screen grabber, search for screen grab pro on the web. It's free and very easy to use. Also, try and get screen grabs of any Twitter conversations you may have had, even those he ignored. It will all be evidence for any claims etc

Try Google Image if the relevant pages are 'missing' from the NHco website - pages are taken down as the offer closes. Eg. I found the galaxy hamper and the retro sweet hamper pictures and descriptions.

    http://www.thenorfolkhampercompany.co.uk/chocolate--sweet-hamper-deal-1299-p.asp
"Retro Sweet Hamper This Hamper will be full to the top of all our old classics ..." .
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.
  • I shall definitely be writing to him in the New Year when the dust has settled to express my disappointment whether I receive them or not - in fact, I think he'd have to personally deliver my hampers on a white horse, with an entourage of handsome men all bearing hampers of diamonds and other assorted treasures as an apology for me to use his company again! :D
(Oops, letting my imagination run away with me again...!)

DSR allow you to cancel an order before it's been despatched for a full refund. I'd go that route first. Send an email quoting relevant DSR saying you're cancelling under that and want a refund. I wonder if that's why this Neil has been saying hampers have been despatched when they clearly haven't.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.
