As I need two of them i've signed up for this R points thing but can someone tell me first if it is worth bothering with them and second, how on earth do I get the points/money back etc. Someone mentioned £5 per system.
It's well worth bothering with Rpoints. You'll earn 2% cashback on Dell purchases, so if you go for a £450 laptop, that's an extra £9 off each effectively. And if you joined via a referral link*, you'll get an extra £5 cashback to start off with. Once you've reached £5 worth of cashback, you can redeem via PayPal or in Amazon vouchers, or get up to £15 and you can have the money paid into your bank a/c via EggPay - it works very well.

*you'll find more details on this if you click here.

Has anyone taken a look at the 5160 code 1-N04511? It seems to be a much better spec machine for £575 all in, which is only another £94 extra.

If you afford the extra £94 I would go for this one.

    Intel®Pentium® 4 Processor 538 with HT Technology(3.2GHz,533MHz FSB, 1M Cache)+15.0 XGA LC
1 Year European Collect and Return Service
FREE Dell Photo All-In-One Inkjet 922 Printer
    1024MB 333MHz DDR RAM (2 x512 MB)
Fixed Internal 24x CDRW/ 8x DVD Combo Drive with Software
    64MB nVidia® GeForce FX Go5200 Graphics Card
    12 Cell 96WHr LI-ION Primary Battery

slight mistake there mate, that discount code doesnt actually include the cdrw/dvd combo you have to pay another 35.25 for that. so its an extra £129 (£610 total) on the fully kitted out inspiron 1150 deal mentioned earlier. It is a better system, though has a smaller hard drive. The laptop is physically the same size as the 1150 as it uses the same basic case, but it does have a few extra features.

Pros of this system over the previous mentioned 1150 deal:
    better battery
    slightly better graphics card
    slightly better screen quality
    s-video port
    better processor
    faster memory
    faster 'ata' hard drive

    cons
    £129 extra
Smaller hard drive (40 gig not 60 gig)

Overall Id say these deals are pretty well matched, depends what your after.

ive edited the list differences to these two deals, seems the graphics card and screen quality is better on the 5160. ive already ordered 2 of the 1150 but i may scrap one of these (if i can cancel it?) and order one of the 5160 deal as there are a fair few improvements for £129 (bar the hard drive size.)

with the inspron 5160 code 1-N04511 you can remove the "Multimedia Audio/Video Cable Kit" to save £29

    So it's £100 more than the 1150.

    edited difference list.

Pros & cons of the 5160 (1-N04511) system over the previous mentioned 1150 (305-N04112) deal:

    better longer life battery
better 'dedicated' (not onboard) graphics card
    better screen quality
    added s-video port
    faster processor
    faster memory

    cons
    £99 extra
Smaller hard drive (40 gig not 60 gig)

In my opinion the improvements in the 5160 system is well worth the extra £99 even though the hard drive is 20 gigs smaller. Though both deals are very very good. ;)

I would guess that a fan will always be runing on the 2.8. I noticed that the 2.4 uses a 65w adapter and the 2.8 needs a 90w. nearly 50% more power!
The 2.8 is a mobile processor, so it won't always run at that speed - it will only be that speed when it needs to (i.e. its doing a lot of work). The rest of the time it will run at half speed to save power - that's when the fan will not need to run 100% of the time.
