Pros & cons of the 5160 (1-N04511) system over the previous mentioned 1150 (305-N04112) deal:
better longer life battery
better 'dedicated' (not onboard) graphics card
better screen quality
added s-video port
faster processor
faster memory
cons
£99 extra
Smaller hard drive (40 gig not 60 gig)
In my opinion the improvements in the 5160 system is well worth the extra £99 even though the hard drive is 20 gigs smaller. Though both deals are very very good.
I think another advantage might be firewire...Under the general tech specs of the 5160 it says they have firewire, the 1150 doesn't. How do you know the screen quality is better though?
I'm not sure if it will actually have better battery life cos of the extra power consumption. (especially the fact that the 3.2 GHz doesn't say its mobile, so I guess that means it runs at 3.2 GHz all the time.) What do you think?0 -
yeah forgot to mention the firewire, that could be handy if your into video editing etc.
ive looked into it and it is a mobile processor (even though they dont state it on the actual specs page) its the 538 model, which is the mobilie (less power hungry) version, u can find more info on intel.com (http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number/info.htm#mpentium) and it wont run at 3.2ghz all the time, only when needed. If you click on the 'learn more' tab on the specs page next to the processor then click the 'Learn more about Inspiron Display options' link on the page that pops up you can see the differences in the screen specs for the 1120 compared to the 1560. (http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/learnmore/learnmore.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&s=dhs&~id=screen&~lt=popup&~series=all&~subcat=15) Basically the 1560 has a native resolution of 1400 x 1050 pixels compared to the 1024 x 768 pixels which the 1150 has, hence the higher 1.47 Mpixels compared to the 1150s 0.786 Mpixels. The 1560 screen also has an improved pixel pitch of 0.217 mm compared to 1150's 0.297 mm. Basically overall the screen is of a higher spec on the 1560.
Theres quite a lot to take in.0 -
The Inspiron 5160 offer seems to suggest you get a Dell 720 printer AND a Dell 922 printer.
If you look on the summary page on the right hand side you have the free delivery offer and then under it you have the offer for the free 720 printer."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
Beware of purchasing from Dells Small Business site as you do not have the same rights to change or cancel your order as when purchasing through the Home site. I am stuck with a Laptop that doesn't have internal speakers. I ordered a Dell Inspiron 6000 last Thursday (7th) Through Dells Small Business site as it seemed to be a better deal than on the Home site. When ordering 305-NO4601 I assumed that all laptops would come with internal speakers and although there's an option to buy external speakers overlooked this detail. This model does not come with internal speakers unlike the models above this i.e. NO4602 and higher. I tried to contact Dell on Friday by phone but did get through to a Human so faxed them and e mailed them, I received this reply on Sunday.
"Unfortunately, Internet orders cannot be changed after they
are Submitted. if you wish to change the specifications, you
need to cancel the order through customer care on 08709060010
and rebook the order online."
Tried to phone them on Sunday but of course they are not open so e mailed confirmation of cancellation.
Just after 9 am this morning (Monday 11th) received a phone call from Dell confirming that I wanted to cancel and I was offered a £30 refund not to cancel which I refused but was then told, "oh I see that you ordered through the Small Business site, you cannot cancel your order" I argued with the guy but got no where, I have since read the small print on the T&C which excludes Business customers from cancelling or returning goods, have also received this e mail.
"This order has been purchased under our Business Channel and
does not constitute a return for refund for any reason in accordance
with Dell's Terms and Conditions of Sale and Service.
We are sorry that we could not help you on this occasion."0 -

Just checked my order status online with DELL and my estimated delivery date is 16th MAY 2005, that is just ridiculous.
Apparently they are waiting for component parts to be delivered.
Have just checked my order confirmation and it states delivery date was 19th April so it has gone back a month!0 -
May laptop is coming tomorrow.
BTW I ordered the 1150 offer on 7th April"An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
yup my order is for next month also, dell arent the greatest with delivery times. I ordered a dell tv off them in january and that took a month to come also, and wasnt even on special offer. Its a bit silly, but they dont make the machines until their ordered.0
