My partner and I have been paying back our debts on loans and credit cards for about a year now and through renting a room and being sensible we have currently paid off eight thousend one hundred and eighty pounds!!!!!!!! AND thats with me being on maternity pay for six months. We have even been able to buy a car since having our first child.
We've done all this with the help from the credit consumer council service (cccs). They negociated with the banks on our behalf. For example MBNA said they would stop all charges and intrest as long all payments agreed were met.
Can we still claim all fees???? if we ask our banks will they add intrest and charges back on???0 -
Yes you can. I am also on a DMP with CCCS. I was scared to claim but once I got into it I realised all was ok.
Any refunds you get are paid towards your debts so at least you will see those decreasing.
Good luck with your claims and well done in paying off so much already. :beer:0 -
You can try and reclaim your charges. CCCS will be able to make an assessment to see if they believe you fall into the hardship category. If you do they will give you a letter to send to the bank to support your claim.
If you would like us to look into this in more detail this link will take you to a section of MSE that explains in more detail and has all the contact details.

I have several companies who I wish to claim charges back from but I am now in a debt management plan. I am wary of stirring things up by pursuing a claim. I would appreciate it if anyone could advise me on this.
Many thanks

This is exactly what my friend has been doing. So far she has managed to reduce her debt by 25% in just 4 months!
I wouldn't worry about stirring things up because 1) the DMP is a kind of contract where everyone has agreed to the way of paying things back so it shouldn't affect that and 2) it they started being vindictive you would have a valid complaint with the Ombudsman, so they don't really do that.
One thing to note - all the charges you claim back against the companies who your debts are with will be credited against the debts rather than paid to you in cash. But obviously it's still worth it because it will mean the DMP is speeded up and you can return to normal sooner.
Another thing - send off for copies of your credit files (£2 each). This will list all the companies you've had credit agreements with in the last 6 years. My friend had forgotten about a Littlewoods card she used to have and so we were able to claim against them as well, even though the account had been closed for ages.
Good luck!

I am also on a DMP.I have sucessfully claimedfrom Halifax and Abbey and the only impact is that the funds cleared the debts with some left over.0 -
I'm on a DMP, one of my creditors is Black Horse, who have been charging late payment fees, interest and other charges since being on the DMP. Am I able to reclaim these to get the debt reduced to the "actual" amount owed? We are in pretty dire straits at the moment so any advice would be greatfully received.
I have already asked for an up to date statement giving a breakdown of all fees & interest since March of this year as I have no idea of what the balance actually is and they haven't notified CCCS either.LBM:FEB 2008

Thank you so much. I *want* the charges laid against the debt! I'll have a go tomorrow!
Cheers:beer: Dealing with debt!:beer:0 -
Black Horse have tried to tie me into another contract with them FOR A FEE and added interest too! I refused but if I had, my car would die before the payment plan expired! Dealing with debt!:beer:0
