"The answer is not very clear I'm afraid because there are too many variables.
Not all lenders freeze interest, so there may be no impact. For those that do, it may affect their decision whether to continue the freeze, particularly if they have had to fork out a lot in charge refunds.
I'm not aware that any have very specific policies regarding how they will treat DMP clients who request refunds. I'm certainly not aware of any clients who have suffered as a result of reclaiming their charges.
If a bank overdraft is comprised almost entirely of charges that were then refunded, that would essentially wipe one of the debts out altogether and remove it from the plan.We would expect the client to use the money towards clearance of the debts, unfortunately, as we are not actively involved in the process (i.e. we don't do it for them) we don't know to what extent they are successful and how much they get - we're reliant on their honesty!)"

Hi, all,
I am new here. Please, could you advise me if I can reclaim credit card charges if my debts are on debt management plan? I had many credit cards, but they are not active now. I pay monthly fee towards all my debts, and it gets shared beetween the creditors.
If the answer is Yes, how will they refund the money?
Thanks.0 -
Yes you can claim. Any refund given will be paid off your debt. That is a good thing though, whilst they won't be giving you money to buy a load of new shoes your debt will be going down.
Good luck with your claims. :beer:0 -
Thank you so much, Ex-Spendaholic! This is so good.
But how about those credit cards who passed the accounts to debt collection agencies? How do I request statements? And who should I write to - credit card company or debt collection agency?
And also some debt collection agencies have been charging me for missed payments even though Payplan (who deals with them on my behalf) have been writing to them about the reason for missed payments. How do I reclaim them back?
I am sorry for having so many questions. But it could make a huge difference to my case. I am struggling so much financially with four children, and have been on DMP for 2 years.
Thank you so much.0 -
Angelnurse, I have claimed from Halifax Visa and Barclaycard who are both part of my DMP and both with DCAs. I got the charges information from both banks and went from there. Both offered a small amount initially but I said no and got the full amount.
Sorry I can't advise on what to do about the DCA charges. I'm not sure how all that works.0 -
I've recently started looking into my old statements for banks & credit cards and have seen that I have a huge amount which are on old accounts which I included in an IVA (started in july 03/settled in july04). Is it advisable to claim back these charges, i guess i'm worried they could seek more money from me even though a agreed figure was accepted (and since paid in full) .... Any advice? Thanks0
