hi, does anyone know the address to send the initial letter asking for your bank charges back? my case is against abbey. thanks in advance. sarah0

Just send the letter to your local branch whom you bank with, they will then forward your letter onto the correct department!
One of my letters I sent to London, it was then re-sent back to Northampton and dealt with swiftly.
Good luck0 -
hi im new on here. can you claim back the instant overdraft fee? im a student with a part time job, and the fee's they are charging is stupid, i seem to be getting charged every other month. they must have charged me loads in the past few years. when they charge me the 35quid, and i dont have enough money to cover that they charge me again, also, i was once 72p over and they charged me then as well. im just wondering if i can claim against them and ifso, what do they do to your account? thanks for any help0

Hi,
i have an on going claim to shabby RE 4k bank charges
over the past 3 days i have recieved 2 emails from them ? didnt even know they had my email address.. one saying they were paying 4300 into my account then another saying 190 paying that in as well
now account was closed by them when i started the claim and its been stayed for like over a year and i have heard nothing off them apart from these 2 emails in the past week.
has anyone else recieved these this week, any advice on what to do regarding them would be great !
thanks alot0 -
What a joke,
I paid in a chq on Tues for £300+ that was due to clear today. Yesterday a payment that varies in date was presented for £25.00 (too late to cancel by me) rather than say we'll there's money going in tomorrow, let's pay it, no bounced it so will now have to pay £35.00 + the £25.00 when re-presented
Maybe about time they speeded up cheque clearance times
No common sense applied whatsoever.
wonder why people fall into debt ?

Four of my direct debits bounced last week, as I lost my job and don't have any income. Now I got my statement from Abbey (basic account), and they will charge me £35 for each, that is £140 which I don't have!!!
I simply don't want to accept this. I have no choice anyway, as I have no money. I'm going to call them tomorrow to see what they say. If a negative response, I guess I will try to open a basic bank account elsewhere.0 -
abbey are useless, everytime i go into there branches there systems are either down, or playing up and going really slow, im guessing over the last 6 years my charges are maybe 2000, is it worth pursueing them for the money or am i wasting my time, im looking to get a mortgage soon so dont want to damage my credit with the bank.0

Hi ads910,
Totally agree that (Sh)Abbey are useless, they've gone worse since Santander took them over. I would definitely start your reclaim to get you charges back. Reclaiming does not interfere with your credit rating. Mortgages are run by different departments, and from my experience with Abbey, they don't talk to people in the same department never mind another building. They introduced their new system in January 2007 and have gradually implemented on going changes ever since. As you say the systems are often down which is very annoying. The staff receive very little training on the system and have to get by by printing off 'how to guides' which can be upto 6 pages long A4.
If you are looking at attempting to claim bank charges back the staff in the branch cannot do much about apart from give you an address to write to.0
