The Tomtom ONE Version 2(black screen surround, SD card slot) and the ONE XL do not come with free traffic, you have to pay £40 a year for the Tomtom PLUS services, you need a bluetooth mobile with GPRS for this. The new Tomtom ONE version 3(silver screen surround, No SD card slot) can be used with the tomtom RDS-TMC traffic receiver with sells for about £50. The only current Tomtom models that can be used for mobile handsfree calling are the 510,520,710,720 and the 910, see here

The Navman is fine but i think the Garmin NUVI 610T is better, its widescreen for a start. The Garmins are also much easier to add additional 'Points of interest' like speed cameras to and the map updates are cheaper.

is this one any good? http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=535234

The Garmin 610 is £249 whereas the F50 is £199 at Halfords.

The Navman N40 is a good model, for traffic you need the £50 receiver, comes with Europe. But the maps will be going out of date and its £100 to renew them. Same as the F50 with regard to adding POI's. I still think the Garmin with the GTM 10 traffic receiver is the best bet.
  • Hi, i was lucky as i bought the newspaper on Saturday, noticed the mis print about TomTom ONE XL and having been after a sat nav for a while decided i would have one if i could get it for the £149.00 which was advertised.I walking into the local currys (Leic's) saw another flyer advertising the TomTom ONE for £149.00 so picked that up too and asked the sales rep for a TomTom ONE XL,(hiding the flyer from the paper as i know how a lot of stores run out of items if they know the person asking is going to get it cheap :) ) He went in the back and fetched me one and as he was typing it up at the same time asking me if i wanted the case for it which he had brought out of the stores with him as he knew one isnt supplied with the XL the crafty sod,i produced the flyer saying is that the one i get that is advertised here for £149.00 and shwn him the paper's flyer.NO he said thats the tom tom one.Oh i said now showing the other flyer that didn't have the3 XL in the title of the offer :).Well i was shocked that he didn't even argue and gave me the XL £149. Result.

Only thing is now i have it, i have never used it only took it out of the box to see it working etc in home.I have been on the net looking for accessories etc and have now seen the new TomTom 520 which would be a lot more suitable for me (being an HGV driver) as i need it more for diversions following traffic jams etc and speed cameras which one the 520 and 720 with either the rds-tmc ariel or the tom tom live services through your gprs enabled bluetooth phone etc has a buddy update system that will tell you if a portable speed camera is somewhere where another user of the tomtom can just click and add that said camera to other users tomtom's.
(Not sure how true it is but i hear there is a new law where they DONT have to advise you when the camera's are going to be there from now on and can hide them a lot more than they could)

So i will be swapping my car insurance to tesco's car insurance which after checking is very competitive in the pricing for the next year on my car entitelling me to £100 off a tom-tom sat-nat, (Details Here for those interested) so when i take this one back to tesco's (No receipt needed as only exchanging)i will buy the tomtom520 for £150 :).

    To Be Continued...................................................................

(please do not offer any advice on the logics and legality of exchanging my tomtom with tesco's now as if the first way fails i have a sure fire way of completing my transaction the same way and will tell you all about it after i have done it. ;) )

What is this person going on about

We don't need a life story - in summary it looks as though the person obtained goods cheaper by deception and has now decided that they don't want them, so instead of bringing it back to the original shop for a refund, they now are planning to decieve another retailer into exchanging it - some how I don't think this is legal moneysaving.

Ps. Please don't continue your lifestory, I doubt anyone apart from Curry's Tescos and the Police are interested.
That made me laugh.. :o :rotfl:

For all of you who purchased Sat-Navs from companies who then charge for updates to Speed Camera software, you should go to : www.pocketgpsworld.com
There, for a nominal sum annually you can download their excellent camera software, rated one of the best. Also you can get loads of info and tips for your SatNav. You do not have to pay anything for information, only if you want the software, but it is SO cheap! For anyone thinking of buying one for the first time this is also the best site for information. Also if you spot a new Camera position, then you get FREE downloads for life!
