I had this problem big time last year. I must have ordered/bought and sent back/returned around 10-15 jackets.

I finally got a mid length black waxed jacket from Barbour and I'll probably never need another winter jacket again.

Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.

I've just got one from Boden, it's their 'rainy day mac' it's a lovely fit but unfortunately it is a very different colour to what is on their website so I will have to send it back for a different colour.
Slimming World - 3 stone 8 1/2lbs in 7 months and now at target :j
  • George @ Asda have some really nice ones in just now. I got a pale grey button up thigh length one for £19 and it will go with jeans and dresses. I usually have a major problem finding something and usually winter is nearly over before I find the right one!

I have the same problem, sort of needed a new one last one but def can't get away with putting it off again this year. I really struggle to find any I like. And why do so many coats seem to not have hoods now? I live in Scotland - I NEED a hood - surely shops here should understand that - but apparently not :(

and when you do get a hood it's way too big and you can't see anything when it's up!

I bought a Merrell Haven coat at the end of last winter, although it has to be really cold to wear it as it is so warm. I tried walking home from work in it once, which was a big mistake!

I recently bought a Four Seasons waterproof waxed coat for wet weather and I have a couple of lighter coats I got from eBay.

It also depends what you want it for/how much you are willing to spend.

For a proper winter jacket, that will keep you warm/dry and cosy, you need to spend some good money. If you buy cheaper winter jackets, you might get one winter out of it and you will need to replace next year, hence starting the cycle over again.

I tried this on through the week and it is AMAZING. Seriously, this is winter stuff.

My Barbour one is similar to this:

You can get hoods which add on too. I know it is a lot of money, but this is a jacket that will last a lifetime. I'm sure Barbour re-wax for free as well if at any point it needs it.

Edit: remember, anything woolen will get sodden wet and smell after a tiny bit of rain/sleet/slush/snow. Yuk!

see I don't like hoods on winter coats at all, I'd rather wear a hat or take an umbrella with me. I suppose I need to look for a replacement for my winter coat soon, I need a knee-length one (with no hood ;)).
  • The Barbour wax jacket is really nice! Perhaps post PTD!

They may be great quality but at those prices I'd want something that actually looks nice! :o

Sorry I know written down that sounds really b*tchy I just thought they'd be a bit more fashionable/trendy at those prices, especially the first one, it's so masculine. They've very bland, so I guess they'd go with everything, but rather than timeless classics I think they're just lacking in style. Maybe it's an age thing, or maybe it's just a style thing - I like colours and patterns too much! :o
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.
