There are a lot of student accounts out there clamouring to get your business. They all offer large free (usually around £1500) overdrafts, it may be worth popping along to a few banks and asking them what they could do for you. I opened a A&L Premier Direct account and they matched my overdraft, free for a year (I also had a £1500 student overdraft).Littlewoods catalogue - won back charges of £300 by default.

Hi,
im just about to start the whole process but wondered how i should go about opening a new account. Do I actually need to start having my salary paid into this account straight away and therefore switch over all my direct debits etc or can do this later if my bank (HSBC) does decide to close my account.
Obvioulsy I don't want to go to the trouble of moving everything over if I don't have to.
Thanks for your help,

Its just advisable to have another account ready incase you need it so I won't bother shifting over your main banking to another account until/unless it becomes neccessary.0

Hi,
We are nearly at the same stage. Natwest's solicitors have submitted a defence and requested we send them a list of charges etc. We are still waiting for the letter from the court. Do I need to do anything as the website says 'just do nothing'?
We hope you won. Please let us know what you did and the outcome.
Cheers!!
Hi,
I have used the pro formas on these sites to reclaim charges totalling £1600. Natwest's solicitors have submitted a 12 page defence today, which is asking me to provide proof of charges (which obviously I have from bank statements) and to provide a defence to everything written in the pro forma letters.
What should I do now? Clealy I am no legal expert. Should I reply at all, or leave it? Do I need to send them photo copies of my bank statements detailing charges?
Any advice would be fantastic.
NB - I note that this website says I should nothing, but the (court?) letter says I have to sumbit a defence by October 15th?

Can someone please send me a sample copy of a letter I can send to my Bank (Natwest) to re-claim bank charges!
Sorry I know thats a bit lazy but if I can copy the format from those of you that have had some success I think this is a good thing.
You can of course bank out all your details and claim amounts for me to add mine in.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
Templates for the letters required are in Martin's article ...

I have had a Natwest Current account for as many years as I can remember. I often have had extortionate charges levied against the account for going overdrawn or past my overdraft limit.
Could someone who has had some succes with claiming charges back from Natwest please send me sample copy of the letter they used. I really am not being lazy, I figure if one of you MSE's have had success by reclaiming bank charges back from Natwest then it makes sense for me to use the format of the letter one of you used.
You can of course delete your claim amounts and any personal details!
Thanks in advance!Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
Hello
We're currently in the process of claiming back £819 (two accounts) from the Halifax. They made an offer of £466 which I rejected. They've written back today:
As a gesture of goodwill I offered you £366+£100 (two separate letters), which you do not wish to accept. I confirm that we will not refund all the charges you have incurred since opening your account. I must also stress that future charges will stand and we reserve the right to close your account if you do not manage it correctly.
If you remain unhappy you can refer your concerns to the Financial Ombudsman Service as outlined in our previous letter.
I'm assuming this is a standard letter?
If we don't wish to continue with this, can we still accept their offer?
If we do wish to progress (and I think we will) then what do I do next?
Does anyone know what my chances are of success?
How long does it take from here?
One of the accounts in question is in my sole name, the other jointly held with my husband. Am I able to take action on my own? And do I just pay one fee for both accounts or do I have to do it as two separate actions?
And most importantly, how much is it going to cost me?!
Sorry for the number of questions!
Thanks very much in advance for any advice you can give me.0 -
