Good luck, we are taking on Lloyds Tsb too. I have applied for a current account with another bank and have printed off the first letter for the 6 years bank statements. I've been thinking about it for a few weeks but our financial situation has forced me into action, if we get the money it will go towards or clear our overdraft.
Thanks tiff, looks like we are both at the same stage, good luck to you too, keep us posted, hope there is light at the end of the tunnel.

    hi all,

this makes interesting reading. I've tried to read everything before asking this question, but apologies if it has been asked and answered before.

I have just started receiving the statements from Halifax. During the 6 years I received charges and had some luck phoning up and having them reversed at the time. My question is whether when sending the next letter specifying the charges to not include the charges listed on the statement that I had reversed/refunded at the time. Or do I just list them all and let the Halifax work it out (or not!)

    thanks, Lee
  • You can't claim back charges that you have already received back so the answer to that would be not to include them.
  • Hi to everyone out there on this worthy site.

My partner and I have just started the process of taking the Nationwide all the way to try and recover 6 years of illegal bank charges. Although we found a few references to Nationwide on the site, if anyone has any specific information on how they were treated by Nationwide, this would be very useful to know. We have just written to them after their 'final word' letter and requested our six years of records under the Data Protection Act.

Cant wait for the 40 days to be up and take it to the next step.
  • Hello All

I am so excited about doing this - I just hope that it all (quite literally) pays off!

I am 24 years old and have just finished my education (I did a MA as well) so my bank accounts and credit card statements are FULL of charges...

I am claiming them back from:

    1. Capital One credit card
    2. Egg credit card
    3. Barlcays
    4. Natwest - £772
    5. Lloyds TSB

So far I have written to request the last 6 years of statements. Barclays and Natwest have obliged without a fee, and Egg has agreed but has charged me £10.

The money that I win will go towards to paying off my overdrafts and credit cards! Gosh - if this all works out and I get the amounts that I am claiming - I could actually be nearly debt-free!

  • Help! I've stumbled at the first hurdle. How do I obtain a past account number when I've destroyed all information relating to it? Will the banks be able to supply this information if they have my full name, date of birth and address details? Can I still send the "first template letter" enclosing cheque for £10.00 rather than await details of my account number?

Thanks in anticipation of your help. x

I have now sent off the first 2 letters to my bank (1 the end of October, the other a week ago). I sent them recorded, I tracked them and it says they've been delivered. However Nationwide haven't replied to either, is this what usually happens?
I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.
