    cheers
why do people claiming from same banks get different results ie some settle without fuss others have problems
is it due to the amount one is claiming

    Thanks for that
  • I'm new here so bear with me!

Firstly, by querying Barclays a few months back, they admitted they had 'forgotten' I had taken out an interest free, three month free repayment graduate loan with them and had since over charged. I wrote them a stinking letter saying that they gave me the account - did their records not show that the account had three months interest free, non -repayments as a starter initiative? They responded by cancelling my repayments four months early! Saving to me was £175 a month plus unauthorised overdraft payments of between £30 and £60 - net saving, £200 better off a month!

Then I found this forum and thought 'Ah, why not?' and using the standard letter, wrote to Barclays two weeks ago. This morning I received a letter from them staing the usual spiel ' we told you when you opened your account' etc - but offering - as a 'goodwil' gesture - the sum of £1840 rebate......!! YIPPEE! They had, by this, admitted they overcharged over the six years and at least made an offer (which I will accept).

I am also going to respond saying I'd like my credit record repaired as it was their overcharging which caused it in the first place! Hey, why not?

If you are browsing this forum and thinking 'oo'er, I don't want to tackle with the bank!', my advice is - stop thinking that way and go for it! By paying out, they admit their guilt.

Looks like a long overdue holiday is in order!

  • I have sent the initial claim letter to reclaim my bank charges from Barclays. And they have sent a reply saying that they do aim to find a solution within 4 weeks, if not, they will explain what is happening then they will send a progress report within 8 weeks.
Please can someone tell me if this and the time scales are acceptable.
  • Sorry I know this has been asked before but, I have had a letter from the bank (Sods law while I was away so I have to reply by the end of the week) offering me around £1250 of the £1750 they owe me (this is £1492.50 charges plus £270 odd interest) They have said this is in "full & final settlement"

I want to take this the whole way to court and get the lot back can I accept this amount they have offered in part and then take court action? also does anyone know how much a court claim would cost for a claim of around £1800 as I'm pretty skint until the end of the month so only have around £40 to go towards the court claim. Can I wait until the 30th and register my claim or will this mess things up legally?

Sorry to ask so many questions been away for a while and had everything happen while I've been away!

Sorry to be a pain but does anyone have any idea on these as to have a chance of getting the payment they've offered me I have to post the letter back tomorrow at the latest.
  • First Direct - £167.50 claimed (plus interest), £167.50 offered (without interest), which I intend to accept - sent first letter on 25/02, was promised a reply within 10 days, got offer dated 18/02. Didn't need second letter. Very happy - and very, very straightforward - however, if I'd claimed earlier I could have got more back, from charges that are now outside the 6 year period.

Am about to send a second letter to American Express (am claiming around £400 from them). Will update when I get news.

    Good luck to everyone else!

    Hi

I would be really interested in anyone who knows about this as well, as I have also received a letter similar to this today from the Halifax.

It says that they will try to reply within 4 weeks, but that the Financial services Authority gives them 8 weeks to investigate and respond....

Standard letters that the banks are sending out giving 4/8 weeks. If you haven't had a satisfactory reply within your 14 days timescale then send off the second letter.

When filling in the allocation questionnaire can you do section G on a typewritten attached sheet?
    I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.
