Railway codes: not happy

Options
I was excited by the offer of codes for cheaper train travel through RedSpottedHanky: the deal would have meant quite a lot to me.

So at one minute to 11 I was on the page where the codes were to appear. No link. One minute past, and still no link. Then there was obviously high demand, and when I refreshed it took until 11.10 before the page loaded again. The link was there, but so was one of those blasted "capcha" things. Some of the characters were ambiguous (for example an I and a J look the same). I did my best; the "capcha" reloaded; now saying that all the codes had gone.

Surely there is a better way to handle the distribution?

And am I the only person around who cannot consistently solve "capchas"?

I entered my email address and postcode, and the captcha, pressed the submit button, and all it did was reopen the Cheap Train tickets in another window. Tried a couple of times, and each time, all I got was the window reopening - no confirmation that my code was on it's way. I can't log back in at 3pm as I will be in a meeting - and i suspect I would get the same issue again anyway.

Same for me, I tried the code about 9 times but just could not get it right - then they were all gone

  • Yes I had exactly the same. Just another window opening. Was I right to leave a space between the "capcha" words? I am usually pretty good at those, so why did it not work? I was right there at 11.00 sharp, surely there can't have been 15,000 before me!
  • Have you all got the 'all codes are gone' message on the page?

If not, then it might be the case that the code didn't get displayed to you; it's meant to pop down underneath the 'Get Code' button, but it took awhile before my code got displayed!

The code won't be emailed to you, it's just displayed on the page.

Once the code tool's back up later today, try again with your email address and it'll (eventually) tell you what your code is if indeed you were allocated one but you didn't see it!

Obviously this only applies if you didn't get the 'all codes gone' message..
  • I got myself a code, but RSH won't let me claim it. Keeps saying "We're sorry, but there has been a fatal error with the application".

    Anyone got any ideas?

Utterly rediculous! Not IMPRESSED You havent put the long standing loyal members before the newbies! we should get them first for being here before this offer was about not joining 5 minutes before the offer came about! I want my Code I waited like everyone but you failed to deliver!

    Further More

You need to look at your hosting servers so they do not crash at the first instance of exceptional traffic. One guy in my office sat ajacent from me literally taken for himself about 8 or 9 codes and he has never used the site in his life!

Really annoyed at this, people on facebook who have never even been on this site are bragging they got 8 or 9 codes.... I was unable to get any - seems a really bad way to distribute these :(
Thanks to everyone who posts competitions

I had the same and know for a fact I wasn't making any mistakes because sometimes they're not difficult to read. What's to stop someone just typing in a different post code and made-up e-mail address each time, which is why I imagine people were getting nine codes?
  • I am really annoyed by this. I set a reminder for 2.50 to go on the site to get these vouchers.... I waited until it was available at 3 then had the exact same problem entering the stupid CAPTCHA letters ... I was clearly entering it correctly and must have tried atleast 25 times with it just reloading before getting the message that the tickets had all gone.

I certainly wont be buying train tickets from that stupid website!
  • I needed to book two trips to London AND i got a code but when I'd entered it it just went blank again and there was no box to tick that I was using a code so had to pay the extra £10. I phoned RSH and they "couldn't understand is" and "please check with MSE that it's the right code" and "maybe it doesn't work on a Mac" !!
Good luck everyone I've wasted about 2 hours.
