They do a large frilly lettuce too! and pick and mix type mini peppers etc. If they upped the org veg they would surely get in other customers too.
Just found these:

 If the Riverford butter is salted, Kirri, that will get shoved in the freezer and donated to my mother. Neither of us likes salted butter yuck. We don't cook with salt, the only exception being eggs.
My husband and my mother are real bread lovers. Now that husband has virtually given up alcohol, instead of organic real ale at weekends he gets speciality bread eg pain de mie and sourdough olive bread from Gail's Bread, pain de campagne and ciabatta from Flour Power City Bakery, fruit bread from Daylesford Organics. We just couldn't make that stuff in a domestic kitchen.
Getting my first black olive was exciting and OH was really pleased when he got his first chilli. Maybe I should get some tomatoes soon..
PS - the organic veg has to be separate from conventional thru the foos chain so sometimes this means packaging tather than loose.0 -

OMG white asparagus and purple leaves and rainbow chard!! I am so so sad but honestly I have barely seen a new interesting vegetable in years except the Flower Sprouts I bought in Asda last week.Feel free to giggle, I am quite happy to make someone smile!
Maybe people on this thread could start a writing campaign? I will certainly ask here if we ever get a 'store of the future' (doubtful, the Flower Sprouts were in the Whoopsie section).Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
^ I was quite excited too when I first saw it, I then took my mum there for a visit!0

I'm planning to take my mother to Whole Foods Market, Planet Organic and Selfridges Food Hall this spring so we can drool
IME organic veg varieties tend to lag behind conventional in supermarkets but Abel & Cole has an amazing variety of veg.
My favourites are the globe artichokes.
Off topic but very sad this morning, hearing Oscar Pistorius seems to have shot and killed his girlfriend, mistaking her for an intruder. Truly tragic.0 -
^ I just read that story, how awful and what a mistake to make today of all days, will affect him for life.
I had globe artichokes a couple of times years ago when I first had veg boxes and seemed a lot of faffing for very little out of them, I was a bit disappointed.
I may go to Planet Organic next week, have to be up in town one day and it's within walking distance..0 -
Just had price alert, this is a good price at Waitrose:
Grove Organic Fruit Co Orange Juice (1L)
Waitrose £2.83 any 2 for £4.40
Tesco £2.83 2 for £5.00
Ocado £2.83 any 2 for £5.000 -
Not had that, is it any good ? OH likes juices, although I try to dissuade him because at least fruit has fibre with the fructose
Grove 1.75 LTR is 2 for $8 at Abel & Cole not sure if that is better or worse ? Offer ends 01/03. Also 1 LTR is 2 for $5 (worse deal than Waitrose).
My Abel & Cole order:
Organic lamb chops 250g 10% off now 3.42
Long Crichel Bakery pain d'Auvergne 400g 1.85
Abel & Cole fresh whole milk 2 LTR 2 @ 1.92
Yeo Valley organic natural yogurt 500g 1.39
Abel & Cole 6 large organic free range eggs 2 @ 2.39
Abel & Cole organic mayonnaise 325ml 2.69
Punnet sweet bite peppers (new) 2.45
Re: mayo.. the Abel & Cole mayo ingredients are organic sunflower oil, organic pasteurised egg, organic cider vinegar, organic lemon juice, organic mustard powder, salt, pepper. The mayo was a winner in the Great Taste Awards 2009
Sainsbury's SO organic mayonnaise 240ml 1.49
Ingredients..organic sunflower oil 68%, water, organic Dijon mustard, organic egg yolk (5%), organic spirit vinegar, salt, organic raw cane sugar, organic modified potato starch, natural mustard flavouring, lactic acid, xanthan gum, guar gum.
Amazingly they taste almost identical but won't be buying the Sainsbury's one.. organic modified potato starch yuck.0 -
^ The A&C mayo sounds much better. I'm impressed with their range of extras too and prices on things like YV compared to supermarkets, I will try them next time I know I will be home on a Friday all day. Riverford don't have such a good extras range.
The Grove OJ is comparable to any branded standard OJ I'd say, I probably couldn't taste the difference from something like Tropicana/Innocent, they all taste much the same - I prefer the M&S org one as it's less sweet. I only have a glass for breakfast mixed 50:50 with water as I don't like it 'neat'. Apart from bananas I don't eat fruit for breakfast, only during the day when snacking so the OJ is an extra for me and makes a change from water which is all I tend to have the rest of the day.
Ocado also has the Grove 1.75L offer the same as A&C though £8 seems a lot to spend on OJ in one go and as I water mine down 1L lasts a while. I've noticed when I've had a guest stay over they go through a carton in a day/night though!0 -
We tried the Riverford organic piccalilli which is really mustardy but mushy and we didn't like it. May order the Daylesford one from Ocado.
Another cheaper than supermarket item from A&C is their mature organic Cheddar cheese which we have quite often.
Paul Hollywood of The Great British Bake Off is on BBC Radio Five Live's Richard Bacon show ATM and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is up later.0
