My local Morries has a fair amount, I've seen other org veg in there - and recently the store had a big fruit and veg makeover too, we have chilled mist wafting over the new aisle of loose veg now, never seen anything like it in the UK.. and all sorts of unusual veg and various more gourmet type veg items inc heirloom tomato varieties etc. So it all looks really good, but still needs a huge more variety in organic.

Apparently they are 'stores of the future' - my nearest are forty five minutes to an hour away tho. :( Still tempted to run my fridge down and have a day out, I'm so bored of ordinary veg.

Hi Fire Fox, welcome to the thread.. many pages ago I put up a video of Whole Foods Markets in Glasgow and I'm pretty sure they have the veg misters.

Quasar do they have them at the Whole Foods you use ?

Fire Fox did you notice the bit about Morrisons going online ?

Went to Lidl and picked up:
Heinz organic biscotti for 87p (not the offer)
Meadow Fresh organic farmhouse Cheddar 2 for 1.50 on offer (wasn't in last week's leaflet and offer expired today)
Montedos Wholefoods mini raisins non organic but no additives not on offer but only 99p (do guinea piggies like raisins Kirri ?)
    Organic Fairtrade bananas $1

So this evening DH surprised me by coming home early and catching me mid-aisle in ASDA. :D It is a pretty big one and used to be open 24/7. There were only about ten other people in there besides us.

Organic salmon fillets 2 for $4 from the fish counter - not bad have had these before
ASDA Organic chopped tomatoes in tomato juice 75p
ASDA Organic whole peeled plum tomatoes in tomato juice 75p - I have no probs with the tomatoes either
Higgidy pies 2 for $6 save 80p IIRC - feeding my husband's Higgidy addiction again ;)
ASDA Extra Special Icelandic line caught 2 frozen cod fillets 2 packs for $6 save 50p - not had this before
ASDA Organic unwaxed lemons - if I hadn't needed some I would have given these a miss, not looking very fresh
ASDA Organic white mushrooms IIRC 80p
ASDA Skincare System organic cosmetic remover pads

That was all we could find !

Higgidy pies on offer at Waitrose this month 2 for £3 or 2 for £4 or 2 for £6 depending on size - never had them, are they good?

Actually just done a search and lots on offer:

    Clipper T bags £2.00
Seeds of Change pasta sauce £1.52
    Rachels butter 2 for £2.80
Neals Yard, loads of stuff on promotion (I think 1/3rd off)
    organic spinach £1.27
    Organic tenderstem broccoli £1.59

It's like an expedition trying to find organic food in supermarkets!

Not sure if the gpigs would eat raisins, prob too sugary, they do like fresh fruit but as I have one who is a bit prone to high glucose and could get diabetes, he's not supposed to even have fresh fruit.

    How much were the lemons?
I didn't know they did organic cosmetic remover pads but then guess I've not searched in there much lately.

It's def worth a look round, a very impressive array of veg including for example multiple varieties/colours of aubergines, courgettes etc as well as all more unusual veg including things I've never heard of. They have loads of loose bunched veg like kale, loose lettuces of all varieties, carrots with tops, chard, spinach etc, none of which is in plastic as it's under the misters as are all the herbs (oh I did buy some dill today non org...). Just a shame none of the new stuff is organic (the organic veg seems to be on other aisles in plastic).

Finally placed a Riverford order, seems a lot to spend on veg and more than I would normally buy in one go but I wanted to give it a fair go plus there is a fair amount consumed in this household. If it was just me eating it, it would be easier.

Went for the Favourites box after an all day deliberation! I found that if I had gone up to a larger normal box there is too much 'heavy' type veg that would take ages to eat instead of more salad/easy eating things. I'll also be having salad for lunches next week. Didn't really want more onions though..

    white potatoes (valor/sante) UK
    carrots UK
    onions NL
    calabrese broccoli IT/ES
    ramiro peppers ES
    cauliflower UK
    closed cup mushrooms UK
    vine tomatoes ES

    and added on:
    Fennel
    Watercress
    Lettuce
6 eggs (not bought eggs since before vegan month but wanted to try these).

    £23.58

Was anyone watching the Hairy Bikers tonight? Looked a nice farm shop they were in (not sure if any was org as missed the beginning).

Hi there Dustykitten and thanks for sharing :T

Higgidy pies and quiches aren't organic but they don't have nasties in. Anyone who has eaten them at my house has become an instant fan. My husband is a Higgidy addict. www.higgidy.co.uk

Riverford Organics does 2 x ham and leek tarts for 2.95 and 2 x Homity pies for 2.95 and these are really good too. www.riverford.co.uk

I don't eat the pastry as I low carb and I often don't have more than a few mouthfuls but I would 100% recommend Higgidy and the Riverfords above (not had the smoked chicken).

Seeds of Change sauces seem to be on offer somewhere most of the time. Was in ASDA tonight and my local one doesn't sell them :( Luckily I think Ocado does the whole range. We keep the Mediterranean pasta sauce as a standby in case I run out of tomatoes and the korma because it goes well with whole wild mackerel.

Neals Yard stuff..ooh may have to liaise with my mother to make sure we hit Waitrose before the offer ends. ;)

Kirri.. got the Daniel Galvin Junior organic shampoo.. seems only one ingredient is organic  Does smell wonderfully melon-y but wears off quickly. Used the shampoo and conditioner and have to say no better than Johnson's Baby Shampoo apart from the smell. Will have to see whether my scalp likes it better.

Riverford small fruit bag.. OH took to work Monday and loved the grapes "tangy but sweet", the pears were a big hit " firm and yet really juicy" and the clementines "had pips but taste great". He wanted another bag but for Friday the apples were American and just not buying those :( He's got raisins and bananas.

Will nab receipt off husband as he paid, Kirri.

Have to say I find eating fruit a problem. Really only strawberries, cherries and pears which don't affect my blood glucose much. Blueberries shouldn't but do. Even drowning them in double cream or yogurt doesn't work :( I can get away with a teeny kid size banana like the organic ones in ASDA. No fruit juices either.

Have you had the Tideford pasta sauces? ^ Much nicer than the Seeds of Change I think. It is fresh but had a reasonable date on it iirc.

Not good re the DGJ shampoo then! I'm on Jason Natural.

I would have liked the small fruit bag but didn't add it on for same reason. Sure they could have provided fruit from at least Europe if not all from UK.

Kirri, the ASDA Organic lemons (4) were 1.87 - not a particularly good price :( The mushrooms 98p and the organic cosmetic pads 85p.

The cod was great - OH did something loosely based on a Portuguese fish dish which is really simple - onions in olive oil then garlic, then herbs (he used a tsp of Sainsbury's SO organic mixed herbs) and a tin of whole plum tomatoes cut up. He simmers in a wok with foil over so the fish gets a chance to soak up the flavours - it's like a chunky fish soup. Very good winter dish,

No, haven't watched The Hairy Bikers, OH hates them. We did watch The Hungry Sailors (ITV) when that was on. They visited lots of farm shops, fishmongers etc.

As the Tideford ones are fresh sauces I probably wouldn't buy them because I make my own. The Seeds of Change is in the larder cupboard for those TKTC (Too Knackered To Cook) moments ;)

I make pasta sauces in summer only, when have own tomatoes. Find all jar sauces a bit strange.

I watched the Hungry Sailors twice, loved the places they went to - they even went to one of my fave (non org) cheese places, Bookhams - they do a great veggie 'parmesan' as I can't eat any organic ones.

I nearly tried the Riverford butter but the salt was high compared to YV I think? Was nearly tempted with the bread too but I can't justify it when I can make it really though guess once in a while doesn't hurt..

Those Asda lemons aren't really any cheaper than Riverford. The fish dish sounds nice, for a fish eater.

GPigs do like strawberries but won't eat shop ones, only home grown, so much sweeter - they also like orange, bananas, apples, pears, melon.. really hard as they stand up squeaking whenever they smell any fruit I'm eating..

Now I know I am getting old, I am jealous/ excited. :o Completely obsessed with weird veggies, especially wrong coloured or purple things. :o Different lettuces is interesting too: all I can get is iceberg, green Little Gem or romaine. Ordered a large green frilly organic from Asda last time and they sent .... Little Gem. The time before they sent iceberg!

Thanks for letting me know, I can see I am going on a mission at some point .... Yes shame it's not organic, I guess they need to maximise the production and sales at this point. Maybe if the concept takes off or the recession starts easing they will bring in more organic?
