An article on the Daily Mail yesterday about how free range isn't always what people may think it is. I thought it may be interesting to people who visit this thread.

Americans on Mark Sissons' website www.marksdailyapple.com go ape for Kerrygold cos it's grass-pastured sweet European butter they find hard to get.
Sainsbury's does SO organic butter 250g 2.49 I think it's either unsalted or slightly salted, don't have any in freezer right now. We like President which is French, non-organic but seems creamier. I've only seen organic Lurpak as spreadable and buy it for OH from Ocado. He thinks Yeo Valley butter isn't as good as President and I have to agree. President does organic but it's 3.99 for 250g at French Click
Waitrose and Tesco do own-brand organic butters but I think both are salted. I did write down prices and details a few pages back maybe it would come up in a search ?
I buy Tesco own brand organic butter, both salted and unsalted. It's usually £1.50 - £1.60 for 250g. I use it for baking mostly so can't really say whether it has a better flavour than others, but the price is so indifferent to other butters, such as standard Lurpak, that I'll pick up organic every time.
For spreading we switched to Yeo Valley Organic Spreadable Butter at £2.90 a couple of months back. We used to use Clover, and when we first switched I felt that I was getting less flavour from Yeo Valley... these days I'm wondering if I'm actually just getting less salt0 -
Musk's has been making em for 125 yrs and now offers Newmarket sausages online and includes gluten free and reduced fat versions too. Oh and By Royal Appointment to The Queen as well www.musks.com
Musks have a stall at our Christmas Fayre each year. Last year I bought sausage meat to make sausage rolls with at Christmas. Very tasty. I've got some more this year, and also bought some chipolatas from them which we thoroughly enjoyed. I'd buy them again, nothing scary on the ingredients list.0 -

I was brought up on Clover in fact my mother still uses Clover religiously. Clover is her GOD lol.
I agree with you though Redlass at first when I switched it felt like there was not as much flavour but now I can't even look at the stuff let alone go back to using it. The bright yellow colour (beta carotene) puts me off. I perfer the mild yellow natural creamy colour of real butter.'Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves'0 -
Why have I never noticed this thread before??? It's genius!
Edwardia, re your question about what's the difference between Waitrose and Duchy milk? The answer (I believe) is that one of them is homogenised and the other is not.
I'm another fan of President butter - love the stuff!0 -

Morning all !
snailsontour - thanks for solving the milk mystery ! Another President fan :T Er hardly genius <blush> but I hope it's useful and fun
bornintoit - when I was a kid my father was diagnosed with high cholesterol. Overnight butter was replaced with plastic tasting Flora eww. I will read the article thanks :T I suspect that when farmers switched to all free range from some battery hens and I suspect the definition was relaxed somewhat.
RedLass - yup I'll be ordering some Musk's sausages in New Year mmm. I don't think it's salt, they do taste different just as that Wheelbarrow Dutch butter looks and tastes different to English butter. I'm wondering whether it's butterfat content of the milk ???0 -
I found a bakery specialising in German style breads and German products. I'm somewhat surprised that doing a website search on organic returned nothing as Germans are really keen on organic.
Does anyone know Backhaus Bakery in Ham ? https://www.backhaus.co.uk0 -
Three pages of organic food and drink on https://www.danishfooddirect.co.uk
including Danish rice pudding 3.50 which is evidently a Christmas favourite in Denmark.
So in this thread there's English, Scottish, Welsh, French, Italian, Spanish, Greek, Swedish, Danish and American organic food0 -
Mentioned in the article which bornintoit kindly shared, here's the website for Rutland Organic Poultry
