  • I posted on here about Waitrose expanding into Shell petrol stations and how Greenpeace had started a campaign to try and get Waitrose to change it's mind. Well I have had an update from Greenpeace here is the email contents if anyone is interested.

"You’re a legend! Waitrose have declared their support for protecting the Arctic and have shelved the planned expansion into Shell petrol stations next year. This is a massive win thanks to your pressure. And you made it happen fast.

Less than two weeks ago, Waitrose were planning a substantial expansion of stores in Shell petrol stations, whilst avoiding our questions by saying that drilling in the Arctic was Shell’s business. Even after Greenpeace campaigners wrote to Waitrose (three times!) the company still refused to meet. But because of you , all of that has changed.

Here's how it happened. You sent an email demanding that Waitrose give Shell the boot. Activists around the UK spoke to Waitrose customers and store managers. And hundreds of people created a social media storm when Waitrose asked for your questions on Facebook (some of the contributions were so funny they had the whole Greenpeace office in stitches).

The effect: Waitrose boss, Mark Price, wanted to meet with us ASAP.

Now, Waitrose are downplaying their relationship with Shell, their plans to expand into Shell forecourts in 2013 have been put on ice, and they publically support the need to protect the Arctic. We know that Shell wanted to see more Waitrose shops in forecourts, so this is a huge blow to their plans.
Waitrose now agrees that the Arctic should be a protected sanctuary, a move that would make the polar region off limits to oil drillers like Shell. This is a massive shift. And you made this possible.

Together, we can make businesses like Waitrose think twice before they buddy up with dodgy drillers like Shell.

    Onwards,

Nic and the whole Greenpeace family"

  • Well I have placed my first order with Abel and cole. I have to admit I have ordered more than I intended, but it is Christmas after all. I will let you know how I find the eggs and bacon. Also ordered the small veg box and a nice wedge of cheese and some milk amongst other things so will see how it all compares to Ocado. Have found Ocado to be brilliant so far. Their customer service has been excellent. On Saturday the milk had leaked so they kindly wrote off and refunded the items that were effected and I got to keep them. The cust services guy told me to look out for a marketing email offering a free champers or choccies. Said to call them yesterday if it hadn't arrived which I did and they added a voucher for £26.39 to my order coming tonight so I'm a very happy and impressed bunny. They also advised me of 2 other vouchers on my account that I was unaware of. Only ordered once before this month back in April when the last o2 promotion ran. I can see I am going to become a regular with them. :) It's so much easier to find the organic stuff and stay within budget compared to wandering round other supermarkets.

rufy I have voucher envy.. I got a 1p e-voucher from Ocado by email today because Tesco was 1p cheaper on the brands which came Saturday.

bornintoit we ought to nickname you born legend now :T
  • Thanks I was so chuffed. :D OH can't drink because of meds so I spent our little windfall on some cava and choccies and organic treats so that he doesn't feel left out. I only ever have a drink at xmas because I feel its unfair on him even though he doesn't mind. 1 of the dalesford eggs didn't make it so driver left the others and refunded them :D. And he rang ahead to check and came at 8 instead of 9-10pm. Wish I'd started using them earlier now as I can't get a slot just before xmas, but never mind at least I have ny covered. Loving their flash sales too, I must have checked and amended my order more than a dozen times in the 24hrs prior to the cut off time lol
  • Thanks for all the info, Edwardia.

I haven't read all of this thread, and not sure that I will be able to keep up with it!

Also - I'm not sure that I should "be here" as we buy a fairly limited range of organic food. although this may inspire me further.

I have found it difficult to buy really nice organic eggs, unless I have happened to be passing a farm gate selling them. Some organic eggs are quite poor and I currently buy Clarence Court Burford Browns. They are not organic, but are nicer IMO than any organic eggs from a supermarket.

Hi namecheck and welcome to the thread.

How much or how little organic food people eat isn't the point of the thread, it's about sharing info, comparing prices, spotting offers, reviewing organic products etc.

Re: eggs I tried a lot of them as they are an important part of my diet. There were quite a few I wasn't happy with - in fact Happy Eggs tasted better than some of them !

Haven't had the Burford Browns myself but have had their quails' eggs. I first tried quails' eggs as a YS (yellow sticker reduction) - 10p at Sainsbury's ! I lurve these hardboiled in salads mmm and so pretty too.

rufy that's agood thing about Ocado they will call and ask if they can deliver early whereas Tesco has been known to come early and leave food on doorsteps !

Just done my last Ocado order before Christmas to arrive Saturday !

De nada, thanks for thanking me but not necessary :o

Grove Farm organic chilled fruit juices 1 LTR were 2.83 now 2 for £5 Waitrose price match to Tesco.

Specially for Quasar.. organic blueberries 150g 50% off to 18/12/12 1.99 Waitrose

Waitrose has Duchy Originals organic and Waitrose Organic 2.272 LTR milk 2 for £3 to 02/01/12 instead of 1.79 each. I'm wondering what the difference is if Duchy Originals and Waitrose Organic milks are same price on offer or not. <confused>

And one of those it could only happen in Waitrose moments.. I just found out they do Waitrose Organic dog food for small dogs and if you buy 8 at 55p each you get the cheapest one free.

Ferrari organic Parmigiano reggiano 200g 20% off was 6.49 now 5.19 to 02/01/13
I always have a prob storing it though even wrapped in saran wrap and in foil or in a ziploc bag or a cheese box it always goes mouldy on me. Now I buy Montanari & Gruzzo grated organic Parmesan 50g 1.90 from Abel & Cole as I want it.
