Husband just brought home Evening Standard tonight and in ES magazine there's a page on cheese.

La Fromagerie has shops in Marylebone and Highbury and although it doesn't seem to do mail order there's extensive info and an amazing range of cheese.https://www.lafromagerie.co.uk

My favourite London cheese shop is Paxton & Whitfield in Jermyn St which dates back to 1797 and was Sir Winston Churchill's favourite. https://www.paxtonandwhitfield.co.uk Paxton & Whitfield now also has shops in Stratford upon Avon and Bath and does mail order. Besides cheese you can get booze, boards, plates even cool bags.

ES mentions Gail's Artisan Bakery which has shops in Bloomsbury, Battersea, Chelsea, Chiswick, Crouch End, Hampstead, Queen;s Park, Notting Hill, South Ken, Exmouth Market, Soho and St John's Wood https://www.gailsbread.co.uk You can also find Gail's bread at 40 Waitrose stores in London, at Harvey Nichols and Ocado carries 24 Gail's bread/cake products.

For more bakeries go back a few pages

Wyke Farms Extra Mature Cheese and Wyke Farms Vintage Cheddar 300g is on offer at Iceland 2 for £4 (normally 2.50 each). Not organic but may not have nasties see website for details as you can order direct. www.wykefarms.com

I had run out of butter this morning so went to my local Sainsburys. They didn't have Yeo Valley which is what I normally buy so instead I bought Kerrygold which says the cows are grass fed now although Kerrygold isn't organic I thought this was the next best thing. Did I make an ok choice or is there something nasty about Kerrygold anyone here knows about?

No idea re Kerrygold? If I can't get Yeo Valley I go for Rachel's or at a push Lurpak org but find that YV hard butter seems more widely available these days at least.

Edwardia - re parmesan - I don't buy it but buy a veggie parmesan style alternative that is non org but is best option for veggie (Bookhams) and I keep it in the fridge whole but just before it goes mouldy I then grate it myself and put it in the freezer.

Thanks for the reply. They didn't have any Rachels' butter, they had alot of Lurpak but none of it was the organic variety. It isn't a Sainsburys Local store but it is still a small supermarket.

C.Lidgate www.lidgates.com is a family butchers (5 generations) which sells organic and free range meat. There's a shop in Holland Park and they do next day delivery in London and nationwide online.

Iberica London sells charcuterie, cheeses, sausages, chocolates, wines and other Spanish specialities at its' deli El Colmado and has restaurants in Canary Wharf and Marylebone www.ibericalondon.co.uk/deli.html

R Garcia & Sons is a Spanish deli in Portabello Road which sells organic olives, olive oil. peppers, Spanish tea and sells online. www rgarciaandsons.com

A couple of other places not in ES..

Partridges is a very well established deli in Sloane Square which is a Royal warrant holder and a shop I used to frequent a lot. There's a second shop in Gloucester Road and you can now order online. All sorts of organic food www.partridges.co.uk

Allens of Mayfair www.allensofmayfair.co.uk is probably the best butcher's in London and umpteen chefs use them as well as one of my close friends. It's not cheap though but you can order online. 10 Pigs in Blankets for £5 is actually cheaper than Marks and Spencer but Abel & Cole have 15 for 3.50

Americans on Mark Sissons' website https://www.marksdailyapple.com go ape for Kerrygold cos it's grass-pastured sweet European butter they find hard to get.

Sainsbury's does SO organic butter 250g 2.49 I think it's either unsalted or slightly salted, don't have any in freezer right now. We like President which is French, non-organic but seems creamier. I've only seen organic Lurpak as spreadable and buy it for OH from Ocado. He thinks Yeo Valley butter isn't as good as President and I have to agree. President does organic but it's 3.99 for 250g at French Click

Waitrose and Tesco do own-brand organic butters but I think both are salted. I did write down prices and details a few pages back maybe it would come up in a search ?

^ It seems really hard to find organic unsalted, I tend to buy that from Ocado and just get the salted if in shops.

Some pages back I mentioned buying Walker's organic shortbread fingers in an independent store but not seeing them elsewhere. Just discovered that Walker's sell online. There are two organic shortbreads and three organic oatcakes and they sell the two Duchy Originals biscuits they make for Waitrose online too.

When I lived in Newmarket as a teenager it seemed every other shop was a betting shop or a butcher's.

Newmarket sausages now have Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status like Cornish pasties and Champagne. Musk's has been making em for 125 yrs and now offers Newmarket sausages online and includes gluten free and reduced fat versions too. Oh and By Royal Appointment to The Queen as well https://www.musks.com
