The only reason to do that would be for profit. How could they not know they were doing wrong? My OH and I would go nuts if we found the eggs he'd been eating were battery eggs. Passing food off as something it isn't is abhorrent.

Yes the onions are unusual. OH thought they were garlic, lol. I let him know gently that they were onions. It was before 7am and he was getting ready for work so I let it slide.

Makes me feel sick to think about eating battery eggs. The fine should have been a lot bigger or even imprisonment, otherwise it's no deterrent. Plus how stale were the eggs as they can't have sold 12,000 eggs from the garden gate that quickly...

I couldn't work out if they were oninons or turnips till I read the list!

Yes the fine should have been more. 90p profit per dozen, admitted to buying 12, 000 eggs. That's 1, 000 dozen packs so £900 potential profit. Couple fined £300 each so that still leaves them with a potential profit of £300 for passing off battery eggs as free range . The potential overall profit should have been the minimum they got fined, personally I'd say x2/x3 potential profit.

Kirri other than waiting anxiously for a picture I'd like to know did you weigh the contents at all of the veg? Found out I'm in the £1.80 delivery charge area. Although I have to say I'm happy with A&C.

Tuesdays fruit and veg box (large). I did weigh everything but I have scales that go up in 25g so it's not accurate. Will edit the weights in if anyone is interested though.

    Bananas 6
    Melon charentais large
    Nectarines 5

    Carrots 8
    Chinese leaf
    Courgettes 4
    Green frilly lettuce
    Ostara potatoes (in the bag)
    Pearl white onions 4
    Pepper red medium 2
    Spinach
    White mushrooms

Hope the pic isn't too big. Did resize it but its difficult on my tablet.

    Nice pic :)

How were your nectarines ? I got six in my fruit box on Tuesday and 3 were bruised and 1 already had mould. When I called A & C as soon as I mentioned nectarines I was interrupted with an apology and a credit to my account. Seems they are having a lot of complaints. Everything else was lovely though. I also suggested that it would be helpful to add country of origin for fruit and veg like Riverford but got loads of excuses/reasons why this wasn't practical. She said that she had put on my preferences that I didn't want anything from Israel. She couldn't confirm for definite that they didn't import from there though.

Riverford is my fav for veg but I am having to order individual items sometimes as I can't always find a box with everything I want or will use. Their new potatoes have been really nice the last couple of weeks, but their radishes have been v hot and poor quality. I've received a credit, but will be getting them from A & C again because they are much nicer, but more expensive.

Also has anyone else been having problems completing or updating their order with Riverford. Ended up with more veg than I needed or could use last week and the fridge is stuffed. Lovely lady at Riverford gave a credit which was more than I expected. Can't fault their customer service.

^ Makes me think A&C are hiding something with the country of origin... Riverford and Ocado put it on their listings, they could do it... I don't want things from Israel and I don't really want things from outside Europe anyway, I'd rather go without. The new potatoes from Riverford were really nice, I ate the lot in a week, I was getting really fed up with the not very nice last season potatoes before that. I did have major problems trying to put my order in the other week though, things get disappearing and appearing from both my basket and the website!

Am going to be visiting that part of the country soon, am thinking of going to visit one of the Riverford shops/cafe (not the Field Restaurant though as it's a bit regimented for my liking ie set meal, set courses, no idea what it is and all eat in one sitting).

One was a little brused so I ate it first so no problems really.

Country of origin would be nice to know for sure. I know in the info of the fruit and veg they put where it could be from but never a definitive answer for the week which is a shame.

This was the Farmaround Select bag - usually £14.85 - 9 items
Says suitable for 2-4 people - think this is like a medium box (they do a much bigger one)

    New potatoes
    New carrots
    Red onions
Green peppers (supposed to get ramiro peppers)
    Courgettes
    Batavia lettuce
Mushrooms (supposed to get rebellion tomatoes, pets not impressed)
Kale - HUGE bag though some leaves bit yellow (supposed to get leeks)
Butternut squash, large (supposed to get beans)

So 4 substitutions really though at least I got peppers for peppers.

I don't believe their we're-OAPs-didn't-know-it-was-illegal line because they knew how to remove date stamps from eggs !

I have seen shoppers in Chavda swapping eggs over so looking at egg codes on date stamps would prevent you from getting mass-produced instead of organic in the supermarket !

I have to say my all time fave eggs come from Abel & Cole mmmm, it took a LOT of testing before I decided on those.

I was annoyed to find that the organic Ocado carrots I had bought came from Israel :(

A&C's samphire comes from Tregida in Cornwall, my nearest Waitrose has samphire in season but you have to ask for it in-store at the fish counter, it's not on the website - and my local ASDA sells it but that's Israeli :(

Question: Do you have favourite vegetables and if so, what are they ? Mine would be globe artichokes, asparagus and samphire.

Anyone besides me been eating strawberries and cream and watching/visiting The Championships at Wimbledon ? Nadal and Federer both out :( I'm going to have to support Djokovic now :T

Favourite veggies hmmm how many can I have ?
Love samphire but only buy it when we go to the north Norfolk coast and it's fresh and cheaper, at least it used to be. Haven't been in the last month or so, but planning to next week.

Favourites would have to include kale, freshly dug spuds and carrots, asparagus and freshly picked runner beans. If I have enough then a plate of runners is all I need. Technically a fruit but also adore avocados too. Basically I love most veg apart from squash (unless it's pumpkin pie :D) and sweet potatoes.

Have been eating so much more fruit since going organic and getting fruit boxes. At least once or twice a week I make a huge bowl of fruit salad and we have a bowl most nights. Strawberries, blueberries, oranges, kiwi, apples, pears and this week melon and nectarines too. The flat peaches from A & C are so nice when included in a box.

Sorry for butting in :D but has anyone used the thecornishfoodboxcompany.co.uk/‎ I use Riverford at the moment love the fruit box but not been so impressed with the veg, A&C would be perfect for us as we grow a far bit of our own so would love a tick box system sadly they don't deliver down here.
