I've been following one Cornish food delivery co but not sure which one - it was one that delivered nationwide iirc.
Growing my own and box deliveries are making it more difficult to choose boxes but they have stuff so far ahead of my own I'm still just about managing it. Has been hellish without my delivery this week - the salad stuff that is as I ended up in 3 shops trying to find an organic cucumber without luck - Morrisons, Asda and M&S who all stocked them in the past - Asda told me they have never stocked them, yeah right, what was I buying before then! In fact the Asda organic veg seemed to have largely disappeared today. M&S did have organic IOW tomatoes today, didn't see them last summer, they looked quite good (Morrisons organic tomatoes were pretty ropey this week, hard and not very red, pets not impressed). Anyway can't wait to get back to my regular delivery next week, probably with Riverford.
Tori - are there any good foodie/veg type places in Cornwall to visit?
Edwardia, am eating my own strawberries now (pic in freezer challenge thread). Not really watched much of the tennis though.
Not sure on fave veg, I eat so many and look forward to the change in veg as the seasons change and as I don't tend to buy things out of season too much it makes them much tastier when I have them again - do like cooking with aubergine/mushrooms though.
Didn't think much of the Farmaround supplied potatoes this week. They were 'ok' but nothing special, quite hard too.0 -
Kirri ooh jammy eating home-grown organic strawberries mmm.. do the pets like them ? Or any fruit for that matter ? When we had budgerigars (very retro !) they went potty for basil and grapes.
Anyone else tried Graze boxes ? OH made the mistake of leaving his by the bed and I'm snacking on pumpkin seeds0 -

Thats the one Kirri they are based at Truro guess I will place an order for a small F&V box and see what turns up. we have a local Riverford farm & restaurant that you can go visit, Cornwall is all about food really it been feast week in Mevagissey for lovers of seafood and Looe festival on the 19th/30th, every month there is a food festival going on somewhere from Redruths pasty festival to the Oyster foraging weekend at Bedruthran. Kingsley village is worth a visit but very expensive.
I had Riverford on the phone as I put a stop on my box next week as we are away, I guess this weeks very green box hasn't gone down to well with some. I did ask if they were ever planning on having a like/dislike system he said it is something they are looking at doing but was pushing me to there build there own boxes so think i was getting a bit of flannel there. I love getting a surprise each week but think they do need an "anything but" list we eat pretty much anything but it can be expensive way of feeding the composter.0 -
OH and I were in Mevagissey for Feast Week one year, great fun ! He lurves Cornwall.
Riverford have put prices up on some things I noticed. Homity pies and leek and ham pies have gone up 50p.
Abel & Cole did give me freebie olive oil and samphire.0 -

The pets LOVE the strawberries but I pick them when very ripe so you can smell them from a distance, so sweet. The squirrels/birds have been taking them too from the plot! Pets not supposed to have fruit though (affects their glucose levels a lot).
I loved Graze when I had them, miss having them..Thats the one Kirri they are based at Truro guess I will place an order for a small F&V box and see what turns up. we have a local Riverford farm & restaurant that you can go visit, Cornwall is all about food really it been feast week in Mevagissey for lovers of seafood and Looe festival on the 19th/30th, every month there is a food festival going on somewhere from Redruths pasty festival to the Oyster foraging weekend at Bedruthran. Never heard of Kingsley Village, will google it.
Was thinking of the Riverford Yealmpton shop/cafe, have you been there? Looks like they have 3 shops run by the brother of the one who runs the farm, though think the farm also has a shop on site - tbh it could be clearer..
Just looking at Riverford now, struggling more now to find a box to suit as I now have carrots ready and potatoes just about ready on the allotment - might just get few individual salad bits for the pets and 1/2 veg items for me. Really need a skip option even if it's only 1 item per box.

Not sure if offer still on but Waitrose were doing a BOGOF on their 2 pack of kitchen towel - came to 75p ish a pack then which was far cheaper than any offer I've seen in a supermarket (though saw Wilkos had put their 2 pack down to 75p this week but those ones are smaller/thinner).
Good freebies from A&C! I've not used them for a few weeks now so hope they offer me a freebie to tempt me back (as they did with my mum). Prob use Riverford this week - want to try the baba ganoush (their salsa was lovely and they have even more new things in that line this week ie curry pasta, harissa etc, love all these!)0 -
Hi
I am working my way through this thread but wanted to ask a question while reading. I have quite a few digestive problems and among other dietary restrictions I can only eat white bread\ cakes\ biscuits pasta etc, no wholemeal or seeds.
I have noticed some breads seem to trigger symptoms more than others (negative test for coeliac) and have found these articles mentioning gluten sensitivity and Adenosine Triphosphate Amylase (ATI) protein, which is found in larger quantities in high-output wheat.
so getting (finally sorry :embarasse )to my question, does organic flours contain this high qty of ATI as I am not sure if these varietys are GM or not?
I am going to try going more organic anyway as I prefer food with less additives but finances will dictate what items we can switch to organic.0 -
Sorry I have no idea re ATI ^ I wonder if the org flour manufacturers could help, Shipton Mill, Doves Farm etc?? More so in organic I've seen mention of using more 'old fashioned' types of wheat but I can't remember who.
I'm guessing you've already read up about modern fast (Chorleywood) bread making and the possible effects on the digestive system as well.
Sainsbury's have OJ on offer, not from concentrate and organic - 2 for £2. I actually went in for Grove but they didn't have it so got this instead. Flavour somewhere inbetween M&S and Grove.
Some very cheap Ecover offers in Sainsbury's as well - I came back a bit loaded.. dishwasher tablets £3.50, rinse aid £2 etc plus lots of the others on offer too.
Pets really don't like the Riverford tomatoes this week, not tried them myself yet to see why, they look good!?0
