Organic food in supermarkets

I used to buy Calon Wen from Ocado sometimes if running low too rufy but thanks to you Kirri I won't anymore !
So now the only UNhomogenised organic milks I know of are these three:- Abel & Cole
- Riverford (NOT Acorn Dairy though)
- Duchy Originals from Waitrose.
Pretty sure that the Duchy stuff is independently processed for Waitrose so that might not change. I've checked and nope not homogonised or standardised at present. Duchy Originals has it's own website too www.duchyoriginals.com0 -
Not sure if this website has been posted before as I remember there was a raw milk post or two on here (this is the company who sold through Selfridges). They are now selling direct and via farmer's markets - I was just reading about them as they will be attending a new Farmer's Market in Crystal Palace that looks interesting - I might go and have a nose as I fancy trying the raw butter.

Ocado delivery arrived and I was annoyed and dismayed to discover that the organic carrots were from Israel.  I avoid buying produce from there and for this reason have stopped buying tomatoes and potatoes from Ocado. Carrots are a new one and I can't understand why they have to get them from Israel. Is there a carrot shortage here ? A and C and Riverford manage.
In addition the spring onions were from Mexico.
I try and get fruit and veg from Riverford as they show the country of origin online. Then I just top up with Ocado, but no more. If Riverford don't have it I will have to go to the sm and at least I can then check the packaging. Even Abel and Cole are a little vague about country of origin.0 -
^ Must admit I prefer Riverford for clearly stating the origin on the website. I have some reservations about some of the A&C stuff as it's not listed on the box or website and as for Ocado, can only imagine it's on price?? (Morrisons seem to get a lot of organic stuff from Israel). The bunched carrots have been from Italy from Riverford but are now starting to be UK - though saying that they were supposed to be in the box this week and got replaced (typically with asparagus which I have bundles of on the allotment so really didn't want more of  plus a bit of a weird swap). Spring onions should be UK now as well, bad of Ocado! As much as I want organic I want it as close to home as possible. I've not used Ocado since I started with Riverford etc.0

Ecover toilet cleaner - £1.12 @ Waitrose today
(though think it might still be on offer for £1 @ Wilkos)
Grove OJ still on offer @ Waitrose - 2 for £4.40 (this offer seems to keep getting extended).
alfsmum - did you try Farmaround? I think I'm going to try next week if the offer is still on.
Just to add I'm loving the wet garlic from Riverford, nice and mild and can use the whole lot, stem and all. The new potatoes have also been very nice. Lots of herbs in boxes too which I love. For the last few weeks I've been preferring Riverford's boxes.0 -
Food mile are of concern to me , but also in regard to produce from Israel this article is interesting and worth a thought when buying fresh fruit and veg.

:eek::mad:
a survey conducted by Farmers Weekly reports that UK farmers also appear to be shifting in favour of GM, with 61% now saying that they would grow the crops if it were legal to do so.
At least not so many consumers are in favour of GM, though still seems the vast majority of the British public I see in the supermarkets or read about on this site don't really care what sort of crud they are eating or how it is produced, going on what they are purchasing.
I got a sample of Jelly Beans in the post this morning - they contained 17 different E numbers including tartrazine and a warning they may have an adverse affect on activity and attention in children. Shocking..0 -
Oh, a lot of stuff is available, but the question is if it is really organic
just read some complaints here, to understand what it is about
www. !!!!edconsumer. com/browse-reviews/grocery.htmlI was in a huge Tesco yesterday. It had a big poster up saying more organic food from a to zucchini but underneath when you looked the only organic produce pn the racks was broccoli and mushrooms - this in a 24/7 store.
Tesco Extra Virgin organic olive oil 500ml on offer at £2 seen yesterday0 -
