Organic food in supermarkets

alfsmum - tried frying eggs with coconut oil and made me feel ick but great body moisturiser, amazing on dry feet and as after sun soother.
Think it was bornintoit who recommended coconoil ? One I tried as parachute and non organic.
Have tried non organic beef dripping, lard, duck fat, goose fat as well and although I'm pleased I tried them, in the end I decided I wanted an organic less processed solution.
I use Netherend Farm organic ghee (clarified butter) for omelettes mmm but Fire Fox will probably go  which I get from Spices of India. OH likes so much he will plaster over anything  and also use organic Extra Virgin olive oil most of the time. I don't care whether it's great quality oil for cooking as long as it doesn't add a weird taste. We don't deep fry.
smallblueplanet - looked on Ocado, plenty of Fairtrade demerara including Billingtons but no organic. What about that online baking store Paul Hollywood uses ? It's on this thread somewhere I think.
britta44 - we have a two floor large TKMaxx here just never would have thought to look in there for Weleda stuff. I use Weleda salt toothpaste as suggested by my dentist because he doesn't believe in putting lots of chemicals in the mouth. Kirri got me started on Ecover things which we love. I also use Arm & Hammer washing soda because our water is so hard.
Kirri - I have noo idea why she did that because he previously said she'd leave them be for the bees and was worrying about chems on her garden because of the badgers. The flowers are good in salads and I used the stalks like chives. Not everything that looks like wild garlic is wild garlic and so I wouldn't suggest foraging in woods for it. Luckily we have a family friend who's a herbalist and we've been foraging with her0 -

never heard of them, they are based in Yorkshire I think, Fire Fox have you heard of them?

It was only around two weeks ago I learnt that Vermicelli noodles meant rice noodles! I got given some (non organic).0 -
Thank you for your effort :j That is quite a choice and I shall give other noodles a go. I checked also on Planet Organic website and they have King Soba Organic Vermicelli noodles - I have Planet Organic near my work so will need to pop there on Tuesday.
I will also try Blue Dragon Egg Noodles maybe in my chicken soup will not be that bed.
In my Tkmaxx there are always shampoos and conditioners from Weleda (or maybe I am that lucky to be there at the right time)
Recently on amazon there was a deal on green people toothpaste (2- 4-1) no fluoride and SLS. And I am positively surprised that your dentist is encouraging you not to toothpaste with fluoride - my dentist disapproves that my 4 year old uses fluoride free toothpaste every second day,,,
I also love Ecover but it is very rarely on offer - some of my cleaning products are Asda Eco Friendly products.
Edwardia - I read that you clean fruit and veg in organic wash solution - please let me know if you have tried washing in water and vinegar mixture...0 -

I found some King Soba organic Vermicelli noodles. I think they are temporarily unavailable so hopefully back in stock at some point.
Thank you that is very helpful - I bookmarked the website0 -
Have any of you tried Bio D cleaning products?
I have the washing up liquid, multipurpose spray and bathroom cleaner.
http://www.biodegradable.biz/0 -
soph - I have heard of Bio-D and Oxfam used to sell online but no longer do that. I don't know of anywhere locally that stocks them.
I've had spillages in deliveries from trigger sprays twice now (faulty manufacture I guess as the tops weren't on tight enough ) so if I can buy locally I will.
I'm happy with Ecover ATM but on other threads people have recommended Astonish (BUAV approved) and Superdrug own brands (veggie) but not checked them out myself.
I do like this for kitchen floor - Grumme Gron Sapa
http://www.ocado.com/webshop/product/Grumme-Gron-Sapa--Liquid-Green-Floor-Soap/79232011
There's a yellow one too - Grumme Gul Sapa
http://www.totallyswedish.com/en/webshop/food/household-beauty-products/grumme-yellow-all-purpose-cleaner
britta44 - I bought a book in a charity shop about cleaning with vinegar but haven't read it yet
I do use distilled malt vinegar for cleaning up filthy old floorboards prior to sealing and waxing though (only 3 rooms and 1.5 landings to go yay). Really good for that as doesn't warp the floorboards. I buy Flair kitchen roll 6 pack for 99p at 99p Stores and sponge scourers and takes hours
Fire Fox looked up the Bentley Organics salad wash I use and pretty sure it was various natural acids + water.
Use sodium bicarbonate made into a paste with water and applied with a clean old toothbrush to grungy tile grouting. I've tried Pepsi, vinegar, soda crystals. lemon juice and Viakill on limescale though without suceess.
My dentist is South African, before him I had an Irish one - maybe that's the difference ? Or that private dentist not NHS ?
I lived in Canada where 60% of water is UNfluordised but in USA over 50% of water IS. In 2010 Center for Disease Control (CDC) said 32% of American kids have evidence of fluorosis which affects teeth and bones. On the boxes in US fluoridised toothpastes have to carry a warning saying that if you swallow more than a pea-sized lump of toothpaste, to contact the CDC for advice.
I may try putting some Ecover products on alert with www.mysupermarket.co.uk They aren't on special offer much.
sams247 hope you are over tonsilitis, mine seems to have gone
Anyone tried this organic beeswax polish ?

Never seen Weleda in my TK Maxx but I will go and have another look now, I do have a nosey around if I'm in there just in case (I had also read that some stock Burt's Bees but never seen that either).
Green People toothpaste is good, they sometimes offer free delivery from their own site too. Lavera do toothpaste iirc with and without flouride.
Ecover seems to me to be on fairly frequent offers from the supermarkets, mainly Waitrose and Sainsbury's (though the larger brances stock more of the range) and sometimes Asda and Morrisons (both have reduced the range stocked over the last year). Also Wilkos have a small selection that is currently (or was a week or so ago) at very good prices. Amazon did have the best price on the 5l box of washing liquid but A&C had it at a good price the other week.sophlowe45 wrote: »Have any of you tried Bio D cleaning products?

I had the toilet cleaner but it wasn't great, though I may have had a faulty batch... it was so lumpy it looked like someone had been sick in my toilet. I should maybe try them again but I've stuck to Ecover since!
I have had some Earth Friendly products too, from the Natural Collection (laminate cleaner, drain enzymes etc).

I use vinegar diluted with tap water for cleaning the pet cages but only as gpig urine is alkaline and vinegar being acidic dilutes it (gets off the white stains if anyone else has them!). It's also supposedly good as antifungal etc I believe.
I have the Ecover (red top) limescale remover, it's ok if used frequently but not strong enough imo to remove build up that has been left a while that easily, I get it bad here.. I have used that on tile grouting with a cheap toothbrush too.
I would presume most dentists just go for the conventional option on what they recommend like most drs just dish out the conventional meds.. I believe some areas in the UK add fluoride to the water?
I have all the Ecover products on alert, had a lot of alerts this week, they are frequent enough not to really need to stock up that much.0 -
